Well we've eventually arrived in Washington from what seemed like a life time on the train....well 17 hours!! The train journey wasn't too bad actually, the Amtrak trains are very nice, with lots of room to relax and it was quite easy to fall asleep which passed the time. It was a really friendly atmosphere on the train, people talk to you like they've known you for years, not really like the trains in England!
When we arrived in Washington we got a shock, it was really cold. Think we'd started getting used to the Florida sun! We managed to find the metro to our hotel and were chuffed when it said it was only 3 minutes. But as this is us it took us an hour and a half! We went the wrong way a few times, you wouldn't believe we had a map! But at least we got to have a look around the suburbs of Washington. When we finally got to the hotel(not hostel!!!), it was lovely. Its in a really nice part of Washington very close to all the sights and everyone there are really lovely and helpful.
After a quick rest we decided to go out and explore. It was only 5 minutes walk to the White House so we started there. It wasn't as impressive as we thought it would be but still quite amazing to be near such a landmark. We didn't really follow our map but managed to find Capitol City, the congress building, the Washington Monument and the War Memorials. Oh and of course what trip of ours is not complete without our visit to Subway!!
After all that we realised that we were in fact very tired, not suprising really, so we headed back to chill out for the night. We were both really impressed by our first day here. Washington is so clean and tidy and very chilled out considering it is the capital city, theres not really any hussle and bussle like London.
So its our last day here as we are travelling to New York tomorrow to celebrate Thanksgiving there, not that we know what its all about yet! We had a nice start to the day as breakfast was free in our hotel so we made sure we filled up. We went to see the Pentagon on the metro but it didn't turn out to be as impressive as we thought and it was raining really bad so being outside was not a good idea. We spent the rest of the afternoon having a look around and keeping dry. We just going to chill out tonight as we've got another early start. Were in New York for 8 days so we will update you all then!!
