We have enjoyed a nice relaxing 6 days in Phuket, which was much needed after the hectic time in Bangkok. We stayed in Phuket islands most popular destination, Patong Beach. At the moment in Thailand it is the low season as it is the rainy season, but Patong Beach was packed full of backpackers, tourists and holiday makers. We didn't know what to expect from Patong Beach but the best way I can describe it, is that its much like a spanish holiday resort. Phuket was hit by the Tsunami back in 2004 and it is amazing how quickly they have got the place back up and running. We saw some pictures of Patong after the Tsunami had hit and all the bars and restaurants on the sea front that we were drinking and enjoying ourselves in were completely destroyed. As for our accomodation here we decided to go for luxury rather than a cheap 2 quid bungalow and stayed at two different hotels. For the first 3 nights we stayed at a hotel called Burasari which was a little boutique hotel right in the heart of Patong. It was really nice, very small and intimate. We enjoyed our few days there and especially the food as the hotel featured a restaurant opened by British chef, Keith Floyd, which not only had great food but was very cheap!
The second hotel was a much larger resort but still as nice and still in the centre of Patong. Apart from relaxing we found the time to do a few things. Lee went on a elephant trek. I had some thai cooking lessons which were great and i even got to taste my own food which in my opinion was pretty good!
We visited the Simon cabaret show which was recommended as something you must do whilst in phuket. It was a great show lasting about an hour and the performances were superb. As for Simon...well thats the she he/ladyboy/transvestite/drag queen person and is the main performer. I think Lee was abit scared by the end of the show and definately needed a pint afterwards! Yesterday we went jet skiing which was great fun and both had a ride on our own, which was alot better than both of us going on together as Lee wanted to go fast and I wanted to keep it at a more steady speed! There is many markets in Patong selling anything and everything you can think of. A couple of things that caught my eye were the Gucci, Louis Vuiton, Chanel, Dior etc handbags and shoes, which too be honest look like very good quality. Im not suprised these big companies are trying to sue! So i got to treat myself to a few nice things!
Now its back to Bangkok for one night before we head on to Hong Kong for a week.
