Well we are in the final days of our trip now. We really can't believe thats we've been going a year, its very strange!
We have just spent the last five days in Berlin. Its a really great place apart from being a little on the cold side. Seriously it has been freezing but its maybe affected us more as we have been used to a bit warmer climates, infact since last week when we were in Hong Kong the temperature has dropped 25c!!
We think that five days here was maybe a bit too much but its given us chance to see everything and not rush and just relax after all our recent travelling. We've really enjoyed seeing all the sights here, there is just so much history.
We went on a free walking tour which lasted four hours and took us round all the main sights, Brandenburg gate, Berlin wall, Checkpoint Charlie etc. Our guide was great, very passionate and knowledgeable about Berlin. We learnt so much from her and it was like a big refresher course of GCSE history. Its quite random to actually see things like the Berlin wall and Reichstag up close.
We found the time to enjoy some traditional German food and drink. A trip to Berlin isn't complete without trying a bratwurst in the open air, even if it is freezing! We also got a taste for a drink called Berliner Weisse, which is lager served in a bowl with a flavoured syrup added and drank through a straw. It sounds strange but tastes very good, wonder if the plimmy has any????
We are flying back to London tomorrow morning to meet our parents and Michelle and Gareth (the miner) which we are really looking foward to. We are going to spend the weekend in London with them all just adjusting back to reality before jetting back to Redcar on Sunday.
