The flight to Miami was 9 Hours long but it was ok - it passed quite quick. We got our first taste of America as soon as we stepped off the plane and had to go through what lynz thought was a scary interrogation process at the imigration desk. It turned out fine, the guy was more interested in our trip than probing us! The taxi from the airport took us from downtown Miami to South Beach where we were able to see the illuminated Miami skyline, just like you see in the movies. Our Hostel The Tropics Hotel was basic but in a brilliant location on South Beach, Miami, which is located in the heart of the famous art deco and nightlife district, just a few steps from the beach. Miami is just what we expected a chilled out holiday resort and hot, about 30 degrees. For the first couple of days we explored South Beach and Downtown Miami. Downtown is just like a typical city with tall office blocks etc. We travelled around using the metro, which is not on or under ground but actually overground, similar to a Monorail. South Beach however is very much the opposite with more hotel and hostels, and a more chilled out vibe, which was good as that is all we wanted to do for our first few days. The beach was very nice with its white sands and clear sea water. On the last day we sat on the beach and both played in the sea for a few hours. (its amazing how much fun you can have with the waves!!) We then went back to ur hostel and sat round our pool and then packed as we were up early the next morning for a five hour train journey to Kissimmee, Orlando.
