SingaporeOn arrival to Singapore we realized that Duncs had also lost his card, but luckily nothing was stolen. This was worrying though because he last used it at the airport, so we assume the security guys doing the X-Ray had something to do with it, as it was the only time it wasn't in his pocket! Anyways we were both now using our secondary cards, good job we brought spares! The staff at the airport were overly nice, almost flirtatious! Unfortunately for me though Duncans got the over top treatment from a woman at the money exchange, whilst I had a bloke all over me in the tourist information office?.just my bloody luck JThe first thing we noticed about Singapore outside the airport was the heat and humidity . Even coming from Bali, it was hotter and more humid at night than it ever was there! This is because Singapore is just 100km from the equator, so pretty much bang on it. I love the heat, but this was brutal! When we got to our hostel it was getting on for 11pm so we decided to stay in. For $15 (Singapore dollar is 3 to our £) we got free breakfast, air con and free wireless internet. So I played a little poker quite happily!Day 2We got out as early as we could for a full day of exploring. We walked all day and as it's a fairly compact place, we managed to see most of the touristy sights and get our bearings. It's a nice clean city as everyone says, not a lot more, not a lot less.In the evening we went to the famous Ruffles Hotel, home of the Singapore Sling cocktail. We didn't check the price before we ordered, and at £8, it is up there with the most expensive drinks I've ever paid for. Ridiculous. It's on the tourist must do list, but its just a posh bar (full of white city bankers) and a bog standard drink, I wasn't impressed. After that we took a 30mintue boat tour on the river which runs through the city. In the early days, the river was the main trading route and many monuments along its bank commemorate the early British entrepreneurs. It was night when we boarded, so the city looked fantastic all lit up. As nobody else was on the boat, it was a bit too romantic of a setting for 2 blokes and a Chinese driver to share! J Worth it though. Contrary to what people say, most things in Singapore are pretty reasonably priced. Especially for such a developed area. However, alcohol is very expensive in comparison so me and duncs only stayed in the city for a few after the boat trip. Our decision was greatly helped by the fact that a US Navy boat had come to town and 10,000 marines had been given a few days off. The term sausage fest does not begin to describe it and being Americans, most of them were loud and off their face by 10pm. By that time they clearly must of managed to drink 2 pints. As we had been out all day in Singapore the day, there wasn't that much left to do, so we decided to leave for Malaysia the next morning.
