Aaah, nice relaxing morning. We didn't get picked up until 12.30pm so we took our time getting up, checked out at 10am then just sat and had breakfast while watching a bit of TV. Felt good not to rush around.
We made our way to Taupo with our new driver Trouble. This time we're on a small mini-coach. The idiots at Stray have decided to send a small coach out, yet for the past week they've been sending big coaches out. So what that means is that all the people who have been jumping off the big coaches to stay longer in places, are now trying to leave and get the little coach. Now it's fully booked for tomorrow out of Taupo and we won't be able to leave there until Friday as they don't have a bus at all on Thursday's!! It's been a complete farce getting these buses.
Anyway, we stopped off at Huka Falls on the way. Really awesome to see. It's not a high waterfall at only 11 metres, but its the speed and volume of water passing down the channel and over the waterfall. Every three seconds, enough water flows through the falls to fill an Olympic size swimming pool. It's really fast and rough as it reaches the falls.
Then we drove on up to Taupo. We were going to do our skydive today, but decided to wait until tomorrow as it was a bit too cloudy. After dropping a few people off, we went to Taupo Urban Retreat, where we are staying for a couple of nights. The four of us managed to get a 4-bed dorm to share again. It's much better staying in a smaller dorm and with people you know. Nice little place, and has a garden area to sit out in.
Dean and Jodie decided to do their Skydive today, as the cloud was starting to clear. We still didn't want to, but they leave tomorrow so had to do it today. So off they went.
We went out into the garden and spotted Lisa who we met in Auckland and went to Paihia with. We caught up with her and sat in the sun for a bit.
For $7 we got chilli with rice, tortilla chips and sour cream, and a beer tonight. Not bad at all. We were starving actually and were waiting around for it like vultures. I could have had seconds as well.
At about 7.30pm, Dean and Jodie returned from their skydive with a huge grin on their faces...I am really looking forward to tomorrow!!! Therese is not so much! The weather came out pretty good for them in the end too.
At 9pm the four of us met up with Lisa and some friends she's met on the bus to go to an Irish Pub for a quiz. It was free entry, but the drinks weren't cheap! $13.50 (£7) for a pint and a white wine with lemonade. We bought two drinks all night! The other one I got for free. During intervals for the quiz, the quizmaster had a few games. Lisa got up to play the game which ended up being the first person back with three particular items wins. For some reason I already had an idea of what one might be. I slammed my pint down, dashed to the toilet, whipped my shorts and my boxers off, threw my shorts back on, ran out and threw my boxers across the room to Lisa! She had to get a pair of men's boxers and two other things! And she one easily because I was quick off the mark. She got 2 drinks vouchers for it...thought the prize might have been a touch better!
We didn't win the quiz anyway.
