Honestly, I really can't stand this snoring. I was asleep two hours and then was woken up by the loudest snoring I've come across so far. It really makes my blood boil. Snorting away like a pig. Somebody must have worked out how to prevent snoring by now. I was on the top bunk across from the snorer and was trying to whip the guy with my towel to wake him up. He wouldn't wake up though. Must have had a lot to drink. I tried to lay down and pretend it didn't irritate me but that didn't work. Eventually he stopped and I quickly tried to get to sleep before he started up again!
The next thing, Therese's alarm went off at 6am!! Felt like 2 minutes ago when I was trying to whip the snorer. 4 of us in the room had to get up this morning anyway for the ferry across to the South Island. I purposely made more noise to wake the snorer up and get my own back.
So, with 4 hours sleep and a little hangover we made it to the ferry terminal for about 7am and checked our baggage in. Cost $51 (£26) each but we thought it was all included in our bus ticket, which was a bit of a joke. A couple of people we met a few days ago turned up at the ferry terminal called Mel and Craig plus another guy called Paolo.
Me, Craig and Paolo decided to nip across to the Golden Arches to grab some breakfast before we caught the ferry. While we were waiting for our order, Craig got a call from Mel saying they were boarding the Ferry!! The staff were proper slow in Maccas as well, but we grabbed our food and legged it across to the terminal. Everyone was flipping gone! Then a guy at the counter said just take a seat and we'll get you on shortly after the vehicles have boarded. Phew, thought we'd missed it!
The cruise across to the South Island took about 3 hours. As we got closer to the South Island, we cruised through Queen Charlotte Sound, which is like lots and lots of green hilly islands with blue/green waters - really beautiful scenery and it was sunny too.
We arrived at Picton and boarded our coach to Marahau in the Abel Tasman National Park. That took about 5 hours with a few stops. Long travel day today. We were talking to Paolo a lot getting some tips for California. We also got a load of really good tips for Italy. He lives in Milan and has done quite a bit of travelling around Italy so told us about some fantastic sounding places to visit. Plus he said he'd take us around the hidden gems of Milan. An Italy road-trip is on the cards!
We arrived at Old Mac Donald's Farm at about 7pm. They had sheep and chickens, as well as a load of llama's! Its cost us $70 (£35) each for 2 nights accommodation, BBQ tonight, breakfast, lunch and BBQ tomorrow night - great deal. The driver is actually the one buying all the food in, it's not provided by the accommodation.
We stayed in a 3-bed cabin with another girl, and Mel, Craig and Paolo had a 3-bed too. They're tiny little huts on a camping ground. There's a little shower block and a couple of toilets, but they're not so great. It's a lovely place though with big forested hills on either side of us.
We were starving and everyone got stuck in with helping to cook tonight's meal. We had a huge salad with sausages and beef, and some Irish girls did a load of mash too. Was lovely. Then we all kicked back and relaxed around a camp fire.
We didn't last too long though seeing as we only had 4 hours sleep last night.
