We woke to our last breakfast in Paraty. All the friends we'd made here had left yesterday and lots of Brazil people were now here for the jazz festival. Around the breakfast table was a lot of foreign language, none English and none that we understood. Lee Had a bit of a hangover. Not the best remedy. We'd handed our clothes to the hostel for laundry before we'd left for the boat trip yesterday and everything was still damp. They don't have a dryer and it hadn't been sunny. They leant me a towel to get dry (which was tie died and frayed, from bleach and over use) I showered regardless. It was necessary, I had sand in uncomfortable places from my swim yesterday!
We packed up and sat waiting for our bus. The time was 11:30-12 pickup. At 12 we were still sat waiting. I sent an email to bamba (the tour company) to which they replied 5 mins later saying they're looking into it. The hostel man said it takes 2 hours to get to the port and the boat leaves at 2..... I messaged Bamba again but didn't get a reply. We didn't want to stay in Paraty another night. We'd already booked our accommodation on Ilha Grande. At 1 we still hadn't had a reply so we said our thank yous and goodbyes and headed for the bus stop to make our own way there. It was 10 reais each. Lee paid and we took a seat on the bus. Literally as we sat down the hostel man came and said there was a taxi waiting for us at the hostel. Lee tried to get our money back on the bus but they said they couldn't open the till. We were in a rush so lee gave up and we headed back to the hostel, jumped in the taxi and headed around the corner. Lee had ran into the hostel before we'd left to check for emails. One had come through from bamba apologising for their late reply, that there'd been a technical issue and it was sorted. The taxi man stopped at a hostel and asked us to wait. When he came back he explained that we'd been forgotten so they'd sent a taxi for us. He wanted to get paid before we left so that's why we were waiting here. He said we'd missed our boat but we could pay for a private one. When a man came out with the money it was the same man who'd come to our hostel at 11:15 and had said our names weren't on his list. The taxi driver asked him for our boat money too so the man went back in, then he hadn't given the taxi driver enough so he went back for more money. It was half one when we left the money man and the taxi driver said 'your boat leaves at 3' then put his foot down. He whizzed around corners, overtook people who were already overtaking, played chicken at some points whilst overtaking but at 10 to 3 we still weren't there. We ended up getting the 4 o'clock boat. The taxi driver was good though. He parked his car at the port and organised everything for us. He even rang our hostel to make sure we were going to the right side of the island.
