Lea's Travels
Las Palmas, Spain
Well, to be honest I don't know where to start! Over the past three months I have experienced everything from Carnivals, to music festivals, to fireworks on the beach, to exploring Caves in Aguimes (which people still live in!) and walking the sand dunes of Mas Palomas amongst naked Germans!! And along the way I've met some amazing people from all over the world such as France, Germany, Barcelona, Sweaden, Peru, Costa Rica, Brazil, Madrid, Belgium, Agentina and Italy!! And what a wicked time Iv had!
My favourite times on the Island would have to be dressin up as a Pirata for the Carnival festivities and seeing the Gran Canarians in fancy dress (mainly men dressed up as women!!). Also the Street Carnival was something out of this world with the flamboyant costumes and Salsa dancers! The Draq Queen show is something I'll never forget either, especially the Queen's massive wedged heels! But what about the Funfair on Puerto de la Luz? and the nightly kick offs along the port? Crazy times!
The Caves in Aguimes is etched in my memory, simply because I can't believe people still live in caves and amongst vines!! They've got it sorted though with two local pubs! The Spanish certainly know how to drink!
Las Palmas also houses some of the best clubs around, especially Moma's, being my all time favourite with the silky sounds of funky house and the chill out grooves downstairs! El Bote was another place where I loved to chill and converse with the locals!!
I had fun times in Language school with Carlos's (my teacher) Obsessions with Monty Python! Ja Ja Ja!
However, my famous memory would have to be working on the music festival, MACFEST. During my time I got to meet some of the best up coming artists in minimal techno and electronic music from Alex Under to Karl Bartos. Let's not forget Vive la Fete either, what a gang of krazy people? Off their cakes well and truely! ha ha!
For me though, what I enjoyed most about living in GC was meeting people from all over the world and learning about their cultures. Simply chatting to these people has given me the appetite to travel again!
So next stop Barcelona and after that who knows...
Pero para ahora bueno adiós!!
