hello
Anyway, as i was saying BIG cockroaches!!!! hehe. Arrived here in vang vieng about 3 o clock and headed for a swim in the near by ""blue lagoon"" before coming abck to the town for a bit to eat. Tubing tomorrow, sitting in a big rubber ring and floating down the mekong, apparently there are lots of bars along the way where you stop and get your free shot of Lao Loa, the locally brewed whisky. Sounds like madness to me plus we have to travel to Vietiane tomorrow so i shall not be joining in whitn the whisky, plus its leathal without water sports added!!!!
Vang Vieng is basically Laos poor attemopt (thank god its a poor one this counrty does not need it!!!) at Bangklok, a centre for westerners who want to kind of experiance asia, its nice enough but quite westernised in comparrison tothe other cities and not kuch here other than watersports!!!
Anyway, the second day on the boat we stopped at the tribal village and Pak Ou caves. The cave is a temple that has been built into the caves, 2000
Budda images, impressive!!!!
Luang Prabang was utterly gorgeous, its the old freench colonial capitol and just beautiful with wide clean sweeping streets and big houses with shutters, really stan\range mixture of s\architecture and atmosphere but it all seems to work in harmony to make just a reaklly chilled out laid back town!!!
Neasr by is the Kuang Sii waterfall, again stunning just so tall and clear blue water, we went swimming in the natural pools, what more could you ask for!!! Had three days in the town just chilling out it was so beautifull, id recommednd Laos to anyone, its so easy to be here and just so beautifull and cheap too!!! bot suprised the goernment tried to keep it to itself wioth the borders only opening in 1999, i just hope it doesnt get too popular and ruined!!!!
The weird thing here is thought, they olove their baguettes, another thing the french left behind!!!! bloody good they are too !!!!
I could gush about this country all night, even the drive from town to town today (5hrs) was just breathtaking with windy roads and stunning mountains!!!!
Although we did have another bug incident in the room the other night, i say incident a bug the size of a small cat dive bombed me when i was in bed. turning on the light revealed it to be about 8 times the size of a cockroach and able to bloody fly, apparently here they call the coconut beetles!!!! i tell ya, that took half an hour of the two of us screeching and jumping up and down before i had the guts t0 catch that!!!! it was so big an had to get it to crawl in the bin, tthrow the entire bin out of the room and then we barracaded the bottom of the door so it couldnt get back in.
Anyway, i'm off to bed!!!
Up at 5am this morning to watch the monks parade through Luang to collect the offerings of food from the locals, it is an offering so the monks will send their good wishes to their ansestors, very pretty but hard to feel like your not invading in those positions!
