5/12/2007 - Having arrived in Hue for no more than 10 minutes, the heavens opened and there was a torrential downpour that would last all day and night! We quickly found a hostel and chose the cheapest of the 2 rooms available (a decision that would soon come and bite us on the bum!). We spent the day walking around the City in the pouring rain, exploring the historical attractions such as the Citadel, the old Emperor's Palace and some Vietnam War shrapnel. By lunchtime we were completely soaked through to the bone and seeked refuge in a nearby restaurant. Some hours later we bravely stepped back out into the rain in search of a laundrette to dry our clothes! That night Leanna was woken up by a concerned Nikki asking her to "feel the floor" of our room, a tired Leanna sprung to life when her hand came into contact with 6 inches of dirty rain water! After waking Zak up, we turned on the light to find our belongings floating around the room along with the waste paper bin and some old slippers! All of our bags were soaked including our clothes and shoes, our cameras were ruined and Zak's music player, which he was not best pleased about! We spent the next couple of hours fishing things out of the water and moaning about our stuff. The ground floor corridor and the street were no better, with the flood level rising, we moved to the dry 1st floor room, which we had previously turned down for the sake of a dollar, you can imagine we were kicking ourselves at this point, and tried to catch up on a few Z's. The next morning we packed away our wet things and waded barefoot up the street, through the thigh high water, to the bus stop where we would escape the rain and head to Hoi An.
6/12/2007 - To our relief Hoi An was alot warmer and dryer, despite the odd shower here and there. Similar to Luang Probang there was a French feel to the town and the streets were packed with dozens of Tailors and Cafes! We splashed out on a decent hotel where we could wash and dry our drenched clothes and have nice hot baths, Leanna and Nikki both excited at this prospect! We hired bicycles for the 2 days we were there and cycled down to the beach, where we would get caught in the rain... twice! Leanna's bad luck continued as she stepped into a puddle of tar and spent the rest of the afternoon scrubbing the tar off her foot and shoes, where it would stick to every other part of her body, tar is an evil invention! But overall the hotel's bath came off worse! Nikki had a successful trip to the market purchasing her "Same Same, But Different" t-shirt she had been on the lookout for and Zak was pleased he had managed to squeeze in a session at the local gym. A few pancakes and banana frittes later it was time to leave the quaint town and continue our journey to Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City).
