Tuesday July 27th - Kuala Lumpur to Penang
Today we said goodbye to KL and hello Penang! We had a morning flight, but were out of the hostel around 7am in order to catch the LRT and train to the airport. At the airport, we had to catch a shuttle bus to take us to the low-cost carrier terminal, which was 20 minutes away.We were cutting it REALLY close on time, because I didn't factor in the shuttle time when we planned for our flights the evening before!Apparently, we weren't the only ones in this situation, because when the shuttle stopped at the airport another couple began running with us to the check in!The check in was supposed to close 45 minutes before take-off, can we arrived at the check in line with exactly 45 minutes to go.We got off lucky though because there was a line, meaning we were safe and sound! We basically checked in, went through security and had just enough time to use the washroom before walking right on the plane.Great timing!
After an hour flight, we arrived in sunny Penang. We caught a taxi from the airport, which took us up to Batu Ferringhi where our brand new Hard Rock Hotel was located. We checked in and I gave them my autograph in exchange for our backstage passes to Graceland. It was nice to have our own room and be able to sprawl our stuff out.Once we settled in, we decided to go for a gander around town, but not until after we checked out the resort pool.
Penang has such a different, more laid-back countryside vibe than KL; in my opinion, a much nicer area to vacation. After picking up some snacks and mixer for our duty-free purchase, I got my haircut!LOL yes.. I got my haircut by a Malaysian guy!It was getting too out of control, so why not get a foreign haircut?!I had a marvelous head massage (which seemed like forever!), wash, cut and blow dry for 45RM ($14.57 CAN)!!!Did I mention how I love how cheap everything is?That'd be at least $50 back in Australia!
We retuned to the hotel, freshened up for dinner and then headed back down the strip to look for a spot for dinner.I won't begin to describe everything I ate in Malaysia because that would take up most of my blog, but don't fret I took many pictures (so check those out instead!)After dinner, we went to the Hard Rock Café, which is attached to our resort for some live music and a few drinks. We ended up meeting a Malaysian actress, Nabila! At first when she told us we were like ya.. ya… and I'm Shania Twain and Jenn's Celine Dion! But it turns out it actually was her!She had to drink her drink out of a kiddies cup because of paparazzi! She even offered to bring us to her shooting the next day!Her agent gave us her number and told us to call in morning if we were interested in tagging along!Crazy eh?!As nice as they were, we politely declined as we would rather be exploring the country and enjoying the weather than sitting in on a shooting with a (at the time) possible wannabe actress.(Note:We would later find out that she was the REAL DEAL!)

lynn That's why everytime I want to pay something here in Canada, Helmi would remind me not to convert the amount to Malaysian Ringgit or else I would not buy anything to treat myself! :) by the way, Nabila is not so popular in Malaysia..haha..because if you're popular then you won't tell anyone that u're an actress..but her Father is a rock legend though, in Malaysia and most probably in Singapore and Indonesia :p
David You could have become the next Malaysian sensation! You should have done it... except that actually seems really creepy now that I think of it.
