Today dad and I were picked up from our hotel by Mirella (my cousin) And her husband Eugenio. We then picked up Paolo and went to Grado. This is the place where I cut my foot open on a broken bottle whilst at the beach - this happened in 1968! We looked around Grado for a short time then we boarded a ferry for Babano, a small island retreat run by a group of Fransiscan monks. It has a beautiful church and retreat centre. The church dates back to 560ad and is quite magnificent. We spent some time looking around then boarded the ferry and went back to Grado. We then went to a small trattoria, via Aquleia, an ancient roman town. There we had a fish lunch consisting of seafood antipasto platter, followed by a seafood spaghetti dish complete with home made pasta. Dad and I could not finish our shared serve. It was a magnificent feast!
We left the trattoria about 3.30 pm and went to a war memorial, which apparently Gerard and I visited when we were in Italy in 1968. We then went to Mirella's house for coffee and met her son Gian Luca, his wife Patrizia and their daughter Lisa. We had a lovely afternoon and then I was dropped back at the hotel so I could do some washing at the laundromat. Then walked to Zia's for dinner. Had a simple dinner of soup, prosciutto and salad. Not too much but just enough. Dad and I walked home to the hotel. It was a lovely evening - about 22 degrees. Early night.
