Today had it all including starting the day with a sleep in (until about 7.30) - holiday bliss! Sam was feeling a little bit wooly so chanced his luck at the hairdresser around the corner in an attempt to feel a little bit better (lighter and cooler) and it certainly worked, he looked beautiful! So it looks like he is coming back to Horgen for his haircuts from now on. All he needs now is a pair of 7/8th pants and he will fit right in. Actually Sam has commented it is sometimes hard to believe we are on the other side of the world, in Nepal/India we couldn't forget we were on another planet but here you can....then you see a random momument the size of our house, or a 1400s building, or the haze clears a little and you can see alp after alp after alp (if we look towards the south). We got the day travel pass which allows you on all transport for the day (we have now mastered the trains/trams/buses) and headed to the eastern side of the city and up a mountain which has beautiful views over the lake/city and the Dolder Grand which is where I would be staying if I was Pirncess Mary - it was absolutely beautiful and grand in every sense (including the calibre of cars in the carpark!). We then headed back around to our side of the lake to the Ironman expo where Sam had to go to a compulsory english version briefing. It was the same sort of Ironman set-up but still quite different. The breifing was in the enormous tent...the only problem was that it was 36deg outside the tent, so it felt like it was over 40deg in the tent. We were dripping with sweat. It eventually finished and we wondered around the expo a bit so Sam could get orientated with the course/transition etc. We then headed back into the city and met up with an old mate of Sam's who he used to play cricket with and is now living here. He took us on a tour of the old part of Zurich which was beautiful. We had a couple of beers in this part of town, and with a cool spot, great company and a cold beer, Sam and I were ready to stay there forever. We didn't though, as we had to head back to the expo area for the official 'Welcome Dinner'. Once again it was very different to the welcome dinner that I went to for my race (e.g. at this one they had people playing acordians and 'playing' a tin box with a whisk on the stage) but the common trait was vat after vat of pasta with most people holding two plates covered with food. We forced as much down as we could manage in the heat, got interviewed by the announcer for being foreigers (plenty of laughs that we were on our honeymoon!), and decided that we were completely covered in grime from being out all day and that it really was time to head back home (about 8pm).

Sarah King Love reading about your trip. Enjoy.
Phil Fantastic story so far guys. Now Monday morning and the order has been restored to world sport: Aussies smash the Poms, Lleyton leads Davis Cup win, Jason Day leading the British Open, and of course, Samuel Hutchinson is an Ironman! Congratulations Sammy, and well done Lawsy as support crew.
