Rome, Italy
Day One
Wow. It's here. Mom and Dad left today, and I had to experience my "dreaded" day alone. It was bad, but not because I was embarrassed about traveling alone. It was just hard to say goodbye to Mom, Dad, Val and Liss, but then have to spend an entire day alone. Nobody to talk to, and nobody to just say, don't worry you'll be fine. But its now 10 p.m. and I think the worst is over. I did a little shopping in the beginning of the day, but I just wasn't in the mood. Up until late afternoon I was just kind of upset and lonely. I did get a new dress though :-D. After my failed attempt at shopping, I decided to find a laundromat. I thought I had found one that was close, however I ended up having to take the metro. It was pretty confusing finding it, and I had to ask a lot of people. BUt I found it, and now I have clean clothes. Of course, going to the laundromat seems pretty trivial, but i was the best part of my day. I was the only person in there, along with the woman who worked there. She spoke very very little English, but we ended up having about a 20 minute conversation completely in Italian. It was really cool. I didn't know that I had that much capability with the language, and she was so incredibly nice about helping me speak while I tried to figure out what I wanted to say. I wish that laundromat was closer to my apartment, because I'd love to go back. All I wanted all day was somebody to just talk to, and ironically enough, I found that with an Italian woman. The homesickness may be tough, but I know I'm going to love it here. There's no question in my mind.
