We have had an action-packed week this week, which started off with us skiing in Queenstown. We had planned to ski for three days but halfway through Day One I came off a lift in the splits and sprained my knees. It was pretty, as you can imagine. I managed to keep going for the rest of the day but an hour or so into skiing on the second day and it became clear that I wasn't going to be able to continue. After a visit to the doctor and the physio I was signed off the slopes so we ended up leaving Queenstown a day early.
Our next stop was Fox Glacier, after a six hour drive along gravity-defying roads. At the glacier we did a helihike. That was awesome. We went up to the glacier in a helicopter, explored it for a few hours, and then flew back down in a helicopter. It was incredible and the shapes of the glacier were so cool. Ha ha ha.
Next stop was Lake Tekapo (thanks Faye) where we went for a lovely snowy walk up to the top of a mountain. There were supposed to be amazing views but the snow clouds meant we couldn't see them. We had great fun walking in the snow and building a snowman though. We also went for a Japanese meal while we were there, and impressed the staff with our language skills, well, "thank you" in Japanese.
We are now in Kaikoura and today went for a walk along the sea cliff where we saw loads of seals. They're so tame that they just wander around the car park here. It's so cool. Tomorrow we're going whale watching which will be awesome.
Almost out of time now so better wrap up. Hope you're all well. Get in touch. Lauz xx
