Hi, just realised that my first blog entry from Wellington didn't seem to save. Will quickly fill you in on Auckland and Rotarua
Auckland is a really friendly and vibrant city. Wennie joined us and it is so lovely to have her with us. Sara caught up with her God mummy on the first day and after spending the morning lolling about waiting for Wennie and Jon's lost bags to turn up, Wen and I went for a bit of a shop and had lunch in a cafe! -such a treat! We ended up by the harbour and had a couple of early evening drinks in the warm sun absorbing the atmosphere and people watching! Sara and Jon left for Rotarua on the bus the following day but Wennie and I weren't organised enough to book it up in time. We got up in the hope we would be able to fit on the bus but as it happened we ended up having to spend another night and catch the others up the following day. As we were up and about early ish we decided to get a ferry across to Waiheke island. The weather wasn't fantastic but improved in the afternoon. We walked into the only village on the island and after having some lunch lay on a grassy bank by the beach for an afternoon snooze.
Rotarua - On the journey down we stopped at Waitomo and did some black water rafting. If you're anything like me, you'll imagine a huge raft like white water rafting just going underground but no - we each had individual rubber rings and all linked up to create a raft. The cave were lined with millions of glow worms and we turned off our head lamps to be guided through the cave by the twinkley little lights. We came to a waterdfall and had to jump backwards off it which was a bit exciting and at the end we slid down an almost vertical slide. All good fun.
We arrived in Rotarua to the delightful smell of Sulphur. The town is a heart of Geothermal activity in NZ. Wennie and I tried to guess where the others would be staying but we were wrong so saw them on the bus the following morning.
