After arriving at koh Tao and being mobbed by taxi drivers on the 20th we searched for a place to stay, it soon became obvious that everywhere was fully booked (because of the full moon party on the 17th, everyone had obviously headed to koh Tao after). The only places with some spaces were diving resorts, in order to stay there you have to take a diving course... Now obviously after hearing the word 'shark' I decided to sit out on this one, the fact that she said 'little' before 'shark' didn't matter at all at that point.
So anyway, Lee signed up and we got shown to our 'free for 4 nights' room (that was one of the perks of the course). Our room was actually a wooden bungalow which was a short walk up a mountain... It was very basic but was fine, until it got dark and we were attacked by mosquitos and other flying things... Not to mention one night when we woke up to find a giant cockroach in our bed, Lee had obviously rolled over and crushed it, so we were finding body parts for a while... Yuk!!!
Lee's diving course lasted 4 days, which by the sounds of it were amazing and have really left an impression on him! One of the days they did diving in the swimming pool to get everyone use to there equipment, I actually went in the pool with them and took my underwater housing for my camera and got some great shots of Lee, who is now PADI certified and very proud!! After 4 nights in the bungalow we checked out and got a bug free room.
On the last few days on being on Koh Tao we went to a view point at one end of the island with two girls we have met from England... When we started climbing none of us realised we were actually about to climb a mountain, it was quite a work out! Once at the top it was definitely worth it but we then quickly realised we would have to get to the bottom fast as the sun was setting... It wasn't easy getting down and one of the girls we were with ended up slipping down and face planting a little palm tree! When we reached the bottom we grabbed some dinner and headed back! The next day myself and Lee rented a quad bike and went exploring in the mountains, we came across one of the most beautiful view points on the island, we were so high up it was unreal! Again, we headed back before it got too dark! On another night we went to 'the queens show', which was a ladyboy show, they basically just did some singing and dancing, it was really entertaining though and scary how convincing some of them were!
On the 27th we jumped on a 3hour boat to Donsak pier, got a bus to Surat Thani and checked in at a hotel. Surat Thani is obviously a city that doesn't see many tourists, as we were stared at big time, where ever we walked we could feels eyes on us, this is when we realised how touristy the areas that we have been to are...
The next day we jumped into a taxi and went to the airport to catch a flight to Bangkok. We will be spending a few days here in order to get our Chinese visas before heading up north...
