Hello all...
We have been in Bangkok for 3 days now and we fly to Phuket tomorrow (supposedly for 2 weeks). It's amazing here, incredibly hot and humid. We have been staying on Khao San Road, which seems to be THE road for backpackers. It's actually insane at night... So many market shops and people making/selling food on the streets.
I really don't know where to start, so I guess I'll start with tuesday... After we got out off the taxi at khao San road we were quickly bombarded by men offering us tuk-tuk rides, wedding dresses (for me, not Lee, obviously) and honeymoon deals and so on, its like they could smell we were fresh meat... Or maybe it was our stupidly large backpacks that gave us away?!
Anywho, after escaping them we checked into our hotel and crashed, we slept for most of the day. So when we woke up we decided to make a trip to 'MBK', which is a huge mall, but the shops were more market shops so you could haggle too (which I've become a pro at by the way... Mothers taught me well!!) :)
On Wednesday we went for dinner on the 'river of kings', which was amazing and I managed to get a seriously good deal which made it that bit sweeter, the food was lovely and it was probably the most we have had to eat since we have been here.
And today... Well, we decided to go to see the temples, the Grand Palace is a 15 minute walk from us so we thought why not... As we were walking there an old Thai man started to make conversation with us (or so we thought) he then proceeded to tell us the grand palace was in fact closed, then he pulled over a tuk-tuk for us and tried to stick us in it to go to 3 other temples while informing is we 'have goooood deal' ... Now, lucky for us I had read about this online and knew this was just a way of them getting money out of you, so I said No Thank you and walked on, they looked seriously angry at us and then the old man thought it was wise to tell us we were 'shooopid' (stupid) people several times. Which I found fairly amusing seeing and when we turned up at the 'Grand Palace' it was very much open, and beautiful at that!! So after that we went to see 'Wat Pho' which is the reclining Buddha, again, it was pretty cool.
We then attempted to do some shopping on Khao San Road. As I was trying on some flip flops (yes mum, I know I have enough) I heard Lee say my name so as I turned around I saw him standing behind me with a tiny (and crazy) old Thai lady attached to his back... Who appeared to be making out with his shoulder blade, while giggling with insanity... I'm not quite sure where she came from but she obviously saw Lee and thought she would latch herself onto him! I think Lee found the whole thing slightly traumatic to say the least!! After that we thought we would take a swim on the roof (yep, that's were they seem to keep there pools in Bangkok) but anyway, to keep a not so long story really short Lee has a rather burnt back!! He's asleep right now and looks like a bit of a lobster... Bless him!!
