As soon as we landing and got off the plane we saw 3 Fijian men dressed in flowery shirts singing while playing the guitar… this is when it hit us… We're In Fiji!!! Everyone seems to smile here, like, all the time! It's not humid like South East Asia, when the sun is out it is HOT but when it's not out its actually quite cool, which is a refreshing change!
We stayed at Bamboo Hostel for 2nights and then booked a 6 night island hopping trip. (from 27th Sept to 3rd Oct).
We got a speed boat to the island, now, if I haven't mentioned before, I get sea sick… this is something I have discovered since travelling! It was so choppy on the speed boat that every time we stopped to drop someone off or pick someone up (which was only twice, thank God), I threw up. Initially I was really embarrassed, until 3 other people threw up too.
The first island we went to was Mana Island. We stayed here for 4 nights. There are a few resorts on the island, we stayed at the backpacker's resort, Ratu Kini, which most of the people from the posh resort would seem to come and hang out at because it was a 'better vibe'! We stayed in a dorm which consisted of 15 beds, it was okay although I don't think I will make a habit of it, one night a guy was snoring so loudly a few people couldn't sleep. Plus, someone stole my chocolate, which I'm still holding a grudge about, it's not every day you get chocolate out here!! Haha. On the plus side we met some lovely people :)
The water is crystal clear here so we did snorkeling, pretty much every day. Lee did a scuba dive which was pretty cool! Although I think he saw more when he went snorkeling off of Sunset Beach, including a shark. He took my camera in the water case with him and got some awesome photos! Our days pretty much consisted of sitting on the beach, snorkeling and eating!
Then we went onto Bounty Island for the last two nights. It takes 20minutes to walk around the island and for our first night it was overrun with 45 Chinese tourists (considering it's a tiny island that's a lot of people). This really wasn't a problem other than the fact they kept asking to take photos with myself, Lee and everyone else who was white on the island!! The food was amazing on bounty but there really wasn't much to do, the tide went out too far so you couldn't really snorkel so oddly we found ourselves just waiting to leave!?
