howdie everyone! hope you are all ok??......
ok so as usual we'll pick up where we left off! our next activity was whale watching, we had to wake up VERY EARLY when it was still dark and cold! we saw a couple of sperm whales who didn't really do much! the best part of it was when we saw a pod of 200 - 300 dolphins...and they did stuff! was very fun and made us def want to swim with dolphins. after this we went to a place called hanmer springs which is in the mountains, was a beautiful drive and stayed in a lush little village. went in the thermal pools which were between 27 and 40 degrees C, was a very relaxing afternoon apart from the smell of eggs from the sulphur pools!
after this we drove back on ourselves past christchurch and down the coast to dunedin. was an ok city but it was raining so it kind of sucks when your living in a car!! because of the rain we were forced to go to cadburys world and eat lots of chocolate!! didn't stay here very long and went to queenstown......
WE LOVED QUEENSTOWN...def our favourite place so far in NZ. spent over a week there chilling out and also jumping off bridges! it was a gorgeous little ski resort place and the weather got a bit colder here at night (try getting changed for bed with an ice cold wind on all your bits!! lol!). luckily though it was gorgeous sunshine in the day and we were able to walk around the town and the gardens etc..
we finally got to do something here that we've been waiting ages for...A BUNGY JUMP! oh yeh the second highest in the world!! the day before lauren was VERY excited and laura was very quiet, lol! on the day laura went first and made it look very easy, coz she wasn't scared at all (this was due to the fact that she didn't look down once despite laurens attempts to make her!) dad tait has already done this bungy jump so we had to make it look good..we have both our dvd's so you can all see our expert dives off the 143m drop...we are pros! we were on a major buzz so as per usual went out and celebrated that night!
a few days into our queenstown stay our friend cat from oz joined the kirk crew, you think two in a people carrier is squished..try 3! we've got our rountine down to a tee now so all is good! we had a night out to celebrate her arrival, of course!
we did another adrenalin activity here which was the worlds highest canyon swing! this was pretty amazing too, the dvd's are very funny aswell - the guys wind you up at the beginning (in fact they scare the s**t out of you! - this made it actually more scarier than the bungy!) if you look at the pics you can see that laura is tied to chair and i jump off backwards! this is coz there's loads of diff options for you to choose..we chose scary ones!
last thing we did there was go up the gondola which was pretty cool..but freezin'! we got stuck up there to coz of the wind... fab views though.
after this was milford sound. this was the most beautiful place where we did kayaking through the sound...very tiring but worth it! we also climed key summit, which was a good couple of hours walk and pretty knackering! unfortunately the weather was shat that day and we saw sod all!
after this was a lovely town called wanaka. everything had a cozy vibe and we always want to go back there! we went to puzzling world here and if you see pics you can see why its puzzling!!
the next stop was the glaciers which were pretty god damn cool! the first was fox which we admired from a far and then we climed franz josef which was AMAZING. we've put up loads of pics for you. it was an 8 hour walk, up and down, up and down, up and down!!! very tiring! pretty awesome as the leader has to carve the steps as you walk (handy coz you got to get you're breath back!). also here we attempted to find glow worms but we were too scared to go in the forest in the pitch black...we made it about 5 mins in then heard a scuffle so ran the hell out of there!
our next stop was the most random of all. we had heard of a bone carving place in barrytown but the town was so small we drove through it without realising! once we found it we made oursleves some cool necklaces which we wear all the time now and also ended up becoming locals and staying there for 5 days in the bone carver - mans front garden!
Next was Abel Tasman where we saw some beautiful views and then drove to Nelson. Looked around the city and that was about it, not that fascinating a place.
Then we had a brilliant time in Blenheim where we did a wine tour on bikes! Sounds strange but turned out to be fab!!! The wineries were gorgeous and now we're pro's on our wines! The council tried to move us on from where we'd pulled up but we sweet talked him into letting us stay another night! HeHe!
This was it for the South Island! We caught the ferry from a cute town called Picton over to Wellington!
We'll leave the parts that we've already done of the north isalnd for another time!
Love to all! Love Lauren and Laura! xxx
