Sorry about the bad grammar and spelling by the way, guess who is typing?!!
Ok so now onto Fraser Island the biggest Sand Island in the world and just 45 mins from the coast leaving from a place called Hervey Bay.
We did a self drive 4x4 on Fraser Island, which means you get 3 days and 2 nights to explore the island of sand in a jeep style truck in groups. The company we had booked with vans were bright pink, so very exciting. 3 groups left including us so with 9 in each group there was a total of 27, but only 6 of them were boys! We only had one boy in our group who was a young 18 year old from Hong Kong, along with his girl friend and her sister, 2 canadian girls me liz and 2 girls we have been travelling with since sydney. So intersting....
Me or Liz couldnt drive because you had to be over 21 which was a bit annoying but actually after watching the other girls drive some bits were tricky to handle so maybe it was for the best!! The first day we got on to the island we went to a big grren lake called Lake Wabby which had a big huge hill of sand bext to it, so we had fun running down the sand into the lake, lovely bright day and all you could see at the top of the hill was more and more sand, quite sureal! The 2 other truck fulls and our group all camped together on this first night and we cooked a bbq dinner, a bit tricky seeing as it was pitch black by six, still fun though and had a chilled evening looking at the stars sitting on the beach before we retired to our sandy tents!!
The next day we were just driving staight up the bech right next to the sea, was so much fun and we saw and old shipwrecked boat and went up to a palce called Indian heads were you climbed up and it was sort of a lookout over the ocean. We wernt allowed in the sea becuase it was a breeding ground for Tiger Sharks... so at Indian heads you should be able to see the sharks along with dolphins and turtles... But unlucky for us it started absolutely poring so all you could see was big grey clouds! As we were already soaked we then made our way up to the Champagne pools which are a group of rock pools that the ocean splaces over and fills (without the sharks) they were lovely and although it was still raining it didnt matter.
Bit of a ruxh to get back to our camp spot as the tides come in quite quickly after 4pm so drove back along the long beach to meet just one of the other groups. Another chilled evening with a few drinks.
W e had heard that the sunrise is stunning on fraser looking out from the beach so we had eagerly set our alarms for 5.45 to witness it, but a few grey clouds were stiull looming from the rain so it wasnt very clear, but we stuck it out and was still a rather striking sight.
Last day on the island we visited Lake Mckenzie after a struggle trying to find the bloody place it was absolutely beautiful pure white sand and the clearest waters I have ever seen. W e spent a couple of hours there and it was lovely to swim in I, Lauren didnt want to get out. The sand there is supposed to be a good exfoliant so i sat there and did a bit of that too!
Back to the main land and to the hostle where luckily our truck (didn i mention its name was 'stinky' ) passed all the right tests. We were exhasted though and so glad to have a shower and wash away all the sand!! Sad too as it was our last night with Vicky and Kim who we had been travelling with since Sydney, they had longer in Australia then us so we had to speed up while they are going to slow down a bit....
Now off to Airlie Beach where we are going sailing
Take care we will try and be better at updating this from now on xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
