'How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard'
Today I said my final goodbye to what I call home, Mount Gambier. :( It was not the easiest thing i have ever done but its the start to my year amzing year that im sure will be for filled with amazing experiences.
Packing, packing and more PACKING! I packed then re packed then packed and re packed until it was time to go. I have never had to pack for anuthing longer than 2 weeks. Packing for a year wasnt fun. i think i packed everything but the kitchen sink. :)
On the road. sunday afternoon we were off to adelaide to be ready to fly out monday morning. at the airport i have never felt so nervous in my life. flying alone, first time over seas and moving out of home for a year to USA. sitting and waiting for the flight was horrible i just wanted to go or just drive home. i wated the pain to be as quick as ripping off a band aid!! we waited 2 hours after checking in. once the flight was called i stood up and said my goodbyes. the hardest thing ever! knowing you werent going to the other side of the world alone was scary. yes there were many tears! once i was on the plane and flying i was okay the flight from adelaide to sydney was over before i knew it. Sydney to LA wow 19 hours on a plane no fun! but i made and it. LA to New York was much better less people on the flight and had a whole row of seats to myself. 6 hours later i was there!!
i meet a creepy old man standig there holding up a sign saying AU Pair America. i have never been so scared! was this what i was meant to be doing i had no idea. finially other girls started arriving. i felt much more safe then :) this is where i met dani she was from england and we really hit it off as we both spoke english as our first language.
once we were all there we got on a bus and drove to our hotel where we would be staying for orientation. i was lucky enough to be put in a room with dani. Debbie also was in our room and we also hit it off. she is from Austaria. so her english wasnt very good and we could hardly understand each other.
we were lucky enough to be able to go on a NYC tour. we seen Times Square, Top of the Rock, empire state building, statue of liberty and world trade center.
while i was at orientation i recieved a gift from my host family. A card made by christopher from all the kids and some very yummy brownies they were great!!
3 days of boring orientation!! was glad when it was over!
Thursday afternoon I was off and about to meet my new family for the next 12 months!!
