In the morning after 12 hours of sleep we woke up to the sound of our alarms going off - thank goodness we had set them. A quick shower and then we checked out of base! Turns out they had decided to charge is extra for the privilege of the double room and not tell us about this!
We left our bags there though and headed to Starbucks for a coffee and muffin in the way of breakfast. A fundraising event for rodeos was setting up outside the window and a man was trying to calm a horse down - good luck with all the traffic around!
A quick wander around the shops and then it was back to Base to pick up a few bags and take them to the new hostel. We decided to do this in 2 trips to save our backs but the very nice man at the new hostel drove us back to collect the remaining bags!
We then did the walk around Lake Rotorua taking in all the geothermal activity around the place. Lots of holes in the ground with steam coming out of them and a very strong smell of rotten eggs! The sulphur in the air really is everywhere. Probably the worst smelling walk we've done on our trip so far.
Kept seeing clips from volcano movies in my head as we walked around and even managed to freak myself out when we came across a number of dead animals in the area as well...not so nice.
We then headed back to the hostel for the evening. After the obligatory washing of clothes we then cooked dinner whilst the kitchen was relatively empty and then got ourselves settled. Yet again no bunk beds woo!
