Today we said goodbye to New York City after a memorable few days, and headed for our bus to DC. The bus trip was pretty uneventful apart from the unintentionally hilarious driver, who was a big scary fella that you definitely wouldn't mess with! His announcements included 'We're leaving 6 minutes late...no big deal', 'If you're late back from the rest stop, all the other buses are full today so getting to DC will take you a looooong time!', 'I'm gonna be generous and give you twenty minutes break, if you're not back by 12...I'm gone!' We made sure we got back early!
We found our hostel without too much trouble and checked into our 10-bed dorm; we're staying with a a couple of German girls and a lad from Nottingham who's doing his gap year before heading off to uni in Bath. Laura's nosebleed saga continued not long after checking in and we wre getting a bit worried about it, but it eventually stopped and Laura reassured herself that everything was fine by checking NHS Direct! Iin the evening, we headed out to Chinatown for a cheap meal which was really tasty (Singapore noodles, $8.95) but Laura couldn't really taste it because of her cold.
We then headed back up the street to an Irish bar we'd spotted on the way to the restaurant and we were asked for ID almost straight away. It was at that point I realised that mine was back in the hostel, so I left Laura sitting at the bar while I went and got myself lost trying to find my way back to the hostel! Half an hour later, I made it back to the bar. The barmaid was really friendly and apologetic that I'd had to walk back to get my ID - so much so that she bought my pint for me!!! First time (and probably the last) that's happened! We stayed for another pint (Irish black lager this time - a cross between Guinness and lager, very nice!) before heading back to the hostel. We were both exhausted after travelling for most of the day, so we crashed out straight away.
Our plan for Monday, as everyone at school goes back after half-term (couldn't resist!) was to hit the sights - looking forward to exploring a new town!
