After last night's exploits, we all slept until late and didn't make it out of the hotel until early afternoon! Our first stop was the main train station to arrange our transport to and from Chaing Mai. We also needed to sort out how we would get to the island of Koh Phangan next week for the infamous Full Moon Party! Outside the station, we were stopped by a very helpful lady with an official looking government ID on who explained to us all of the options in very good English! She directed us to a travel agents around the corner where a man named Sam arranged everything for us. Apparently, there was no space left on the sleeper train to Chaing Mai for the date we wanted but we could get an overnight bus instead. We've since debated whether this bit was a scam between the travel agent and the bus company….hmm! So now we're sorted for getting to and from Chaing Mai (bus there, sleeper train back) and to Koh Phangan (train/bus/ferry combination ticket). It was all a little too easy, hope it all works out ok! I think we've just developed a suspicion of anybody here who seems helpful - sad but true!
Next, we decided to head to one of Bangkok's famous mega-malls for a look around and some air conditioning! Laura had found one online called Siam Paragon so we caught a taxi and headed in. We had a wander around the huge ground floor, which was filled with places to eat from every country you could think of! We were amazed by the scale of the place and were looking forward to trying the food. I had a craving for a burger so after looking at a few places we eventually settled for a Piri burger place, where I had an amazing burger - craving satisfied! Laura had steak and she really enjoyed that too!
After another wander, we stopped for dessert at a coffee shop (New York Cheesecake, blueberry pie and brownie cheesecake) before heading upstairs to the cinema, where we decided to see Hugo. It was quite different to the kids film I was expecting and I really enjoyed it - Paris was a picturesque setting and it was well written with a few funny bits! It's also the first time we've had to stand up for the national anthem before watching a film!
We were pretty tired afterwards so we caught a taxi back to the hotel (eventually!), and did some washing and had an early night.
