Our free tuk-tuk transfer took us to a different hotel to where we were staying, for us to hand over our voucher for our day trek tomorrow which we'd booked in Bangkok. The agent Sam had wanted us to stay here (they must get commission) but we'd already booked somewhere else. Chris went in to give in our voucher and the lady tried to sell us another tour for today - we just want to sleep! Back in the tuk-tuk we were taken to our hotel, Chang Puak, which means white elephant. It was about 7am so we didn't think we'd be able to check in yet, and were planning to lounge by the pool. So we were pleasantly surprised when we were shown to our room straight away.
The room was lovely with a big comfortable double bed, TV, air con and fully stocked minibar! The downside was that Chris's single bed wasn't very comfortable and wasn't even made up for him - it must just be a sofa when it's used as a double room! Dave alerted reception who sent up the housekeeper half an hour later when she started work! By that time Dave and I were already passed out on our bed, and half head her making the bed. We'd been told that breakfast was served until 10:30, so we slept until 10:00, had quick showers, and were down at the garden restaurant with seconds to spare. I asked if we were too late but the young girl just laughed and said it was ok - phew!
We enjoyed a lovely breakfast while making our plans for the day - relax by the pool then head to a bar later! We spent the day doing just that - relaxing on sun loungers by the amazing infinity pool. We walked as far as the restaurant again for lunch, and Dave and Chris made the most of the cheap beers.
After relaxing in the room for a few hours, we headed out to the UN Irish bar, after looking up the directions and asking the hotel receptionist to point us in the right direction. We'd read there was a pub quiz on there on a Thursday so we decided to try our luck. We found it eventually, after using the map on Chris's iPhone and probably costing him loads. We ate there before the quiz - Dave chose the traditional Thai dish of pie and mash! And then it was time for the quiz - we paid £2 to enter and were given our answer sheets along with the picture round to complete - famous painters - great! We tried our best but didn't fancy our chances much! That seemed to be a recurring theme throughout the quiz and we ended up 3rd from last out of 18 teams! Never mind, we had fun!
We went back to the hotel afterwards to get an early night before our day of trekking tomorrow - looking forward to it!
