It's Christmas Eve…apparently! We still aren't feeling very festive, but I'm sure that will come!
Today we decided to have a wander around near the hostel, not venturing too far, as tonight we have to pick up our cruise tickets at 5pm, so we'll have to get ready to go out early. After breakfast, we walked into the shopping area, not far from the hostel. Dave managed to buy some jeans and a red tshirt (for the red and white themed cruise tonight!) for $15 in the sales. We browsed in some more shops but decided it was too hot for shopping!
Back at the hostel, we spent some time online, before cooking curry for tea, then getting ready for our Christmas Eve party - our first Christmas party of the year! We got the train into the city, then quickly found the bar where we had to collect our tickets. There were other people dressed up, so we didn't feel so silly as we put on our santa hat and reindeer antlers! After drinking our free drink included in the ticket price, we started to make our way towards the wharf where the boat was departing from. We got a few funny looks from people on the way (yes, I'm wearing a santa hat!), but felt a lot better when we got to the wharf and saw a sea of santa hats and people dressed up for ours and the other party cruise.
After a short wait, our huge catamaran boat arrived and we all boarded. There was an indoor area with a bar and dancefloor, and a huge outdoor area at the front of the boat. We managed to get a good spot outside and got some amazing photos of the harbour bridge and opera house as we cruised around the harbour. We finally started to feel Christmassy and felt lucky that we were here on Christmas Eve - it's what we've been dreaming about for the last year!
The cruise lasted 3 hours and on the way back it stopped at The Rocks for people who wanted to get off there. Our hostel is in The Rocks, so we decided to get off there and walk back, hoping to find a pub on the way so we could see in Christmas Day. It didn't exactly go to plan, however, as The Rocks is a very complicated area, and not easy to navigate using our little map the hostel gave us! We eventually made it back to the area we recognised and found a pub called 'The Orient' where a band were playing. We spent the last few hours of Christmas Eve dancing to the band, then went back to the hostel just after midnight, excited for our Aussie Christmas Day tomorrow!
