Happy Valentine's Day! This was our first non-English Valentine's Day, and our first one as an engaged couple, and what a lovely place to spend it!
Today we planned to do the same as yesterday and spend the day on the beach. On the way we stopped at a different café - Little Bird Warung, for a drink and to use the free wifi. We wrote down the directions to our hostel in Kuala Lumpur, from the airport for tomorrow, then looked up prices to get to Uluwatu, the clifftop temple where we planned to go for sunset tonight…it's a good job we looked it up first, as it would have ended up costing us a lot to get there and back, so we decided to give it a miss and stay local again!
At the beach, we hired the exact same sunbeds as yesterday and settled down for the day. It was a lot quieter than yesterday, even the women offering massages were nowhere to be seen. I'd decided to have a beach pedicure as a mini Valentine's present, but the woman I'd spoken to yesterday wasn't around. I hoped I'd spot her later…
As we sat down for lunch, again at the table right behind our sunbeds, I spotted her walking towards us. She recognised me too, as I told her I might have something done today. I told her I'd like a pedicure after our lunch. Lunch was lovely again, and we got half-talking (half listening in) to a Dutch woman who was a teacher, and lives half the year in Holland, and half in Bali as it's so cheap - sounds good!
We laid back on our sunbeds and I haggled a price for my pedicure, while Dave assured another lady that he didn't want a massage or a pedicure! I paid £3.50 for my treatment and ended up with very pretty toenails with flowers painted on! I think I'll just get this done every few weeks until we go home!
We were very hot so decided to go back early to cool off. We were on the lookout for a magnet on the way, in some of the shops. I must have been paying more attention to one of the shops as I tripped on the uneven pavement and ended up with a bloody toe which hurt a lot (luckily my pretty toenail with the flower was unharmed!). We weren't too far from the hotel, so I managed to hobble back and get cleaned up. We have a good first aid kit with us, so I bandaged my toe to keep all the dust and muck out of it, but had to cover the toe nail with the bandage L Crisis over, we cooled off for a few hours before going out to find somewhere for our Valentine's meal.
There were a few places offering set menus for the occasion, but we fancied something simpler. We found a small Warung right on the beach called Pantai Indah, and sat at a table on the sand, watching the sunset which made the sky and sea turn a light pink colour - perfect for Valentine's! It was a lovely setting for a Valentine's meal, even if the background music was a little odd - Greenday! We remembered back to last year, when we wondered where we'd be spending the day this year - we've come a long way since then!
Afterwards, we headed to Linga Longa bar for some more Bintang and a game of 'Would you rather…?'. Dave's best question to me was which I'd rather he chose for the wedding - my dress, hairstyle or flowers?! Our fun ended when a big group descended on the bar and surrounded our table, so that we were sat as part of their big circle…time to go?
When we got back to the room we switched on the TV and found that The Hangover had just started - perfect end to our stay in Bali! We're off to Kuala Lumpur tomorrow…
