We are in Lijiang! we are staying in a traditional old guesthouse. small and cozy. everything is wooden and chinese style.. they have a dog which is scared of everone and barks and growls all day.. and two birds who seem to chirp and b**** at eachother. one computer with free interent which everyone wants to use at the same time!
The streets are mirrored with the same shops selling the same tourist crap from the same sales hounds!
we didnt think wed do much sightseeing here but everyone was off to the black dragon pool in the afternoon- so we decided to tag along. shockingly we were told we had to pay 8pounds 'preservation fee' to the old town to beable to see any sights. reluctantly we payed..as everyone else on the tour did (without b****ing about it).. but then when we got to the dragon pool, were told to pay another admission fee on top!!!!!! this seriously pissed me off. 8 pound is alot in chinese money anyway.. its 80 yuan. bear in mind you can get a main meal and rice and a beer for 20 yuan.
When we arrived in china, we payed 300 USD local payment to the trip leader. this was ontop of the large amount we already payed in england when we booked it. we were told we would only have to pay for food and excursions such as cooking school, tai chi ect. but so far we have also been paying for buses/private coach/entrance fees..tips for the driver. screw the bloody driver!!! im skint here. A few people from the group have expressed a similar rant and we will all be emailing complaints to Gap Adventures.
Anyway, we escaped all this moodyness to a lovley cafe (again) called 'Nordic Delight'. a newyorker and his wife run it. cozy leather seats, chunky monkey milkshake and a chiloled afternoon. English style bathroom was the best bit!! Wooden toilet seat, towel, bin with lid, mirror, nice seat..decked out ikea style!! you do appreciate the small things.. and that western toilet with wooden seat was heaven on my bum!
