We started bright and early - at 5 am. The kids were excited and ready to go! We drove non-stop until Augusta. We stopped in August at a great deli. Charlie gave it a five star for his burger. Right after lunch we got moving again. We drove another 3 hours to Charleston. We went straight to the Ft. Sumter National Memorial Park to see the birthplace of the Civil War. We got there too late for the last ferry to Ft. Sumter but totally enjoyed the museum and the pier viewing the USS Yorktown. It was a beautiful afternoon! After our time at the pier, we did a driving tour of Charleston. We loved seeing the historic churches, the gorgeous architecture and the beautiful College of Charleston. We stopped for dinner at Jestine's Kitchen. We got seated just before the line began forming! The kids enjoyed ham and starches, mom had some soup, and I loved a fried green tomato salad (kind of an oxymoron to have something fried on top of a salad)! We are now settling in for the evening to rest before a busy day. So thankful to be here safely.
