The Heinz memorial chapel began as a gift. Henry John Heinz (founder of H.J. Heinz Co.) wanted to honor his mother with a building at the University. He died in 1919 and made that arrangement in his will. This picture in no way does this incredible chapel justice! It is in the Gothic tradition and is located across from the Cathedral of Learning. More than 1,500 events take place in the chapel each year. The stained glass walls are so beautiful. The chapel has 23 windows and total approximately 4,000 square feet with 250,000 pieces of glass.The architecture windows remind me of so many churches I've visited in Europe.
