Hi everyone....
Well we hit Chiang Mai where we went on a 2 day trek into the wilderness with a tribe man, the three hour trek up to the village killed us and we must have sweated enough to fill a bath between us! Once we arrived it was totally worth it as the views were breath taking. We then had dinner with the local villagers in their wooden hut/ home by candle light and enjoyed a bit of cooked frog with rice. We were taught all about the way of life up in the mountains and had a laugh with the others. The next day we had another hours hike to the waterfall which was really nice and refreshing, then a hike to the elephants where we got to ride them, our elephant decided it would just do its own thing though, we were also made to be the 'special' looking ones as our guide made us beautiful hats out of leaves hmmm. After a near death experiend on a bamboo raft at the end of the day we went back to Chiang Mai city. - overall awesome experience.
Following the trek we had a well deserved rest and chilled out by the pool for two days, looked around the national museum and then headed to Pai.
Pai in itself was interesting- hippys EVERYWHERE we stood out like sore thumbs amongst the strangely dressed, hair dreadlocked people of Pai even the locals were all 'at one with peace and love' basically a bunch of freaks. We hired out a scooter where laura showed off her spectacular driving skills......until we crashed into a field and got soaked by a bunch of sprinklers watering the grass hahaha. We drove round to all the different waterfalls in the area for a dip, visited Pai canyon, and the hot springs where we got to relax in a mineral bath- which was really bloody hot hahah!!!!. We headed to a hippy festival for the night time thinking we would arrive to a freaky rave with everyone bopping to trans music but no!!!! it was infact a RECYCLING festival and everyone was sat meditating and swaying to some freaking dude with long grey hair playing this strange instrument and making a bunch of bizzar noises down a microphone....lets just say it was an experience.
From Pai we headed to Chiang Rai here we visited the chinese villages in the hillside who settled in the forests back in the day sometime. We went on a 4 hour hike around the countryside and again saw some beautiful views whilst sweating like a pair of piglets! We walked around the local night market and ate in a fancy restaraunt which had shinia twain live in concert playing on the TV lol by the 'clock tower' which lights up and plays music every hour- the world stops to watch it.
The next day we headed up to the golden triangle and the top of Thailand where you can see the border of Laos and Maymar (sp) we looked at the ruins around there and the famous temple before heading back to the main city. That night we hit the night markets where there was entertainment in the main square, we saw traditional thai dancing and a bunch of ladyboys singing in dresses hahahah too funny.
Then we headed to Chiang Kong where we just stopped over for one night to catch the slow boat to laos. not much happened here but we met a group of cool people to hang around with.
Then the nice two day journey on the slow boat, i mean painfully slow boat to Laos. We did another stop off on the way in Pak Beng where again there wasnt much happening but we still had a nice evening with our new mates.
Once we finally arrived in luang prabang (Laos) we went out for dinner and met everyone for drinks which turned into the most random night of our lives. The bar shut and we headed to the only disco place in town, disco was maybe mistaken for bowling as we actually ended up at a ten pin bowling alley that had music and alcohol, packed full with tourists as everyone had the same idea we ended up having a really good night (which was free as we both managed to wangle a bottle of whiskey a bottle of coke and two free tuck tuck rides there and back outa the lads we were with) boom! night made better as we didnt spend a penny hahaha.
The next morning feeling very sorry for ourselves, we dragged our headaches to Jomo Bakery- which is famous apparently! we spent four hours in there making ourselves feel better with chocolate milkshakes, cups of tea, fruit smoothies, and bagels. There was no need to move though as it was raining outside- thats our excuse for stuffing our faces for four hours anyway. That night we hit the night markets which sell the most bizzare things you could think of, cool though.
Today we rented bikes and rode around the city for hours again getting a massive sweat on in the heat but all good fun, we managed to find a gorgeous cafe for lunch along the way which always helps haha. Tonight we are heading to watch the sunset with a group of people and then who knows- maybe the bowling alley again hahahaahahah.
We will keep you posted with the next lot of activities we do. love to everyone back home sarah and laura ! xxxxxxxxxxxxx
