hello hello bak to blog time grrrr
may 29th - got up and had a wander round the shops and the town. it was bitterly cold though so we went for a coffee then went back to the hostel for lunch and to warm up then headed out to Glenorchy to do a horse treck. was really good we did river crossings and had a good canter through the river valley. the scenery was stunning!! its where lord of the rings was filmed apparently, havent seen the film though so it didnt thrill me. came back had a much needeed shower, had free soup and did some laundry. watched Gladiator in the hostel then we went out into town about 9, bought some fudge, a coffee and one alcoholic beverage then went back to bed as bec was feeling groggy and has a bad cold.
may 30th - had a bit of a lie in till 9:15 wooooo.
had breakie then headed up the mountain to the snowy top in the gondola. got our magic bus dicount on 7 Luge rides ( a downhill go kart/sledge type thing) and the gondola return so all good. went straight up to the luge and were given our helmets, had to get another ski lift up to the second place and the start of the track. went whizzing down the mountain was sooooo much fun hands were like ice by the end but was so worth it. did it another 3 times, even venturing on to the advanced track whooo go us!! then we were cold and i was traumatised as i had had a luge without brakes on my last go, so we stopped for a coffee and cake. another 3 times and a few photo stops later and we were done, booo, could have done it all day.
got the gondola back down the mountain side
went into town, onto the internet then we had another FERGBURGER and really regretted it i was so full i could hardly breathe, walked it off by going round the gardens and along the lakeside. went back to the hostel and watched dirty dancing, had our free soup with wine and then got ready to go out. we were having a big magic bus night out, only the rest of them dont have to be up 7am the next day to get the bus as they're staying longer. went to Buffalo bar and World bar where they serve cocktails in teapots and then pour it in to shot glasses.
got back about 4 cos a certain girl who will remain nameless was drunkenly refusing to leave the club and go back to the hostel to go to bed and i wasnt leaving her on her own hahaha.
anway 3 hours later the alarm went off.
may 31st saturday - yeah the alarm went off and up we got packed and hopped on the magic bus. was pretty much non stop jouney to Dunedin today apart from a stop where a guy was taken out of the bus put into an ambulance and taken away. we have no idea what was wrong with him, and the saddest part was he was on his own and nobody knew him so he had to go alone, awww.
arrived Dunedin bout 1 and checked into Central our hostel. its pretty nice all newly decorated but the guy behind the desk was a total airhead. he didnt give us a room number and was wondering why we were still hanging about, then said he couldnt find the key. then we went back out into the street he typed a code in a random door a few meters down and shoved us all in. then we found out the next day he had only booked us in for one night not two and our stuff was heaped in the middle of the floor and the beds were stripped!!! grrrr.
eeeew sharing with a smelly boy again which we havent done in a while. just seem to get put in all girl dorms. although there have been lots of girl snorers too. (ok since writing that found out it was actually a girl which looked like a bloke aaagh)
aaargh and my straightners have broke, not that ive used/use them that much but how annoying. im surprised it hasnt happened earlier my bag takes a fair beating from people flinging them off busses or boats or planes.
anyway just been for a wander round town, had an indian and now sat in McCyberDonalds surrounded by people eating burgers. im all burgered out after Queenstown - 2 FERBURGERS is definately enough, urrgh giving me goosepimples just thinking bout it.
ended up watching the brit awards with a big bowl of soup, hardly knew a lot of the people we've been away that long. and what a mess amy winehouse is.
showered and was in bed by half 8.
June 1st - got cant believe its june already - 5 weeks yesterday till we are home!!! not that im counting down every day or wishing my time away just excited for home too.
have lost my voice this morning and have such a sore throat i can't swallow.
went for a wander to the cathedral and the railway station which is apparently the most photographed building here in Dunedin. wasnt anything amazing. went for a walk to the harbour as we thought it might be pretty but soon guessed while walking through an industrial estate it wasnt going to be a nice one so turned back. so now we are back in McCyberDonalds having a coffee and keeping warm.
booked on Elm Wildlife tour thingy this afternoon, which was 6 hours of wildlife fun. ha was pretty funny we thought we had booked on this really geeky bird watching tour as we got binos and a list of birds to see. but then we got out the bus and wlaked down the cliffs to the beach and saw penguins walking up towards us on the same track it got a whole lot better. they were only metres away and weren't bothered by us in the slightest. watched them for a bit then made our way onto the beach where huge sealions were lying about cooling off. becky coughed and a sealion sat up and stared at her, the guy said that it must have sounded to him like his boyfriends calling out.
walked further along and saw more penguins coming out of the sea into their living area on the cliffs. then the guy saw a sealion coming out of the water and so we went back along to where they were as there was going to be a fight!!!
was amazing we were metres away from 3 or 4 huge sealions 4 times the weight of us grunting and fighting. then one of them started coming towards us to check his dominant man status. we let him win and went back to the bus.
back up the hill then off down another, this time even steeper and it was getting dark, this time it was to sea another seal colony. couldnt see them that well at first, but there were loads of them all camoflaged in with the rocks. didnt stay there long as everyone was freezing and the dark was getting darker.
got back to the hostel, showered and made some hot soup. watched Narnia for the first time ever, its not as rubbish as i thought it would be. then we went and got ice cream not sure why just fancied some.
monday june 2nd - happy birthday alicia!!!
haha becky tramps on the bus with her walking boots on today and the dryed on mud from yesterday goes everywhere. the driver is not impressed and shouts oi you with the lesbian stomping boots look at the mess your making was pretty funny.
first stop was the worlds steepest street. geee whizz and we were given a whole 15 minutes to see the street and run up it if we wanted - oooooh what fun that sounds!! it was 8 in the morning so i was still prety asleep.
next up was a breaky stop at some boulder rocks. again me and bec couldnt be bothered to climb up and down the cliff to look at them so we took pictures of the photos that a professional had taken in the gift shop haha looks good and i bet none of you would even have noticed the difference.
another stop off at a lake and then another at a church (look in my blog pic above) which was cute. nearly fell flat on my face coming out the church though. ha my foot fell down a paving crack but i managed to stable myself and prevent making a massive fool of myself.... and breaking my ankle.
arrived Lake Tekapo at about 3, was really pretty. went to the supermarket and came back were sat chatting for ages then made some tea watched some crappy film - fifth element maybe?? then went to bed.
june3rd -
woke up to an amazing sunset so we both rushed outside and got snap happy overlooking the lake. then all aboard the bus for christchurch, ha and after the driver checking bec didnt have her lesbian stomping boots on today, off we went. only had a quick cafe stop today and arrived into the city about half 12. we have splashed out for our last 4 nights of NZ and bought a 'sanctuary' room at Base. for a little bit more dosh you get more space, a towel, amazing startched sheets (instead of the ones which are soft and bobbly after being washed far too much), a free glass of champagne, no smelly boys that snore or wee on the toilet, shampoo and conditioner and a hairdryer - score!!
walked in at 1 and a girl was still in bed curtains closed and everything. we couldnt see a thing so i thought stuff her and opened the curtains wide letting in the sunshine. she got up and stormed out - bothered though!
went for a walk round town and to get some food for tonight then came back and booked our dolphin swimming adventure for tomorrow.
made tea then met nicola and niamh for a few drinks in the hostel bar.
wednesday june 4th - booo the dolphin swimming was cancelled. dont really know if im relieved or not. had a restless night sleep thinking bout being in the water with them. everyone is saying - but theyre not fish, you shouldnt be scared. pffft they swim and live in the water making them pretty big FISH to me!!
so went to the Canterbury museum instead, which was bit dull hate museums and then we went punting on the river avon which was good then on a tram ride or three round the city. then as if we hadnt had enough culture for one day we also went to the cathedral and walked round the botanic gardens!
went to see 21 in the cinema since there was nothing else to do.
june 5th - went to Akaroa for the day... and got to see some dolphins!! we went out with the dolphin swimmiers but didnt swim just watched from the boat which was actually better as it was sooo choppy and the people in the water couldnt actually see when a dolphin was right in front of them. saved ourselves $50 by not getting in.
had a walk round the shops and the village, then a quick hike to the lighthouse then got the bus back. conked out on the way back i seem to be able to sleep anywhere and at anytime of the day and the best thing ive brought on this trip by far (apart from myself) has to be my inflatable neck pillow.
came back made tea, rang daddy since mum was out gallivanting aorund the country with auntie joyce, had a shower then went to bed.
Friday June 6th - got up had breaky then headed into town. whooop whoop got sex and the city cinema tickets for today, its only just come out here!!
but before we went to see it, we posted off our things we didnt need and got some money changed. had some lunch then whoop off to the cinema!! was the best film ever!! so sad at times and so funny i was almost in tears a number of times.
had a glass of champagne and went for an indian meal last night. was sooo good, only it was cut short by me rushing to the toilet thinking i was going to puke. sat on the toilet floor a while ( it was a big disabled toilet so i wasnt sat around the pee pee floor bit round the bowl for everyones information ha) and felt a bit better. im sure it just makes me feel a load better when i have something to puke in nearby, instead of other people dinners!
anyway i dint throw up just felt really ill and lightheaded. so went to bed.
saturday june 7th - got up and packed our bags. checked out and have been on the net for an hour or so. off to have a posh breakfast at some posh hotel in a bit though. we have a two for one voucher so thought why not.
