Left Zanzibar and travelled back to Dar es Salaam via a rather choppy Catamaran journey that had one or two of the passengers reaching for sick bags! Back in Dar we returned to the beach house where we had stayed before and got an early night before two long drive days across Tanzania into Malawi. The two days travel involved a couple of 10 hour drives which was a little tough but the scenery was picturesque. After driving through Mikumi National Park and spotting pigmi elephants, giraffes and antelopes we arrived at Iringa camp site which stands around 2200 feet above sea level and was quite chilly.
The next day we drove across the border into Malawi and stopped at Chitimba camp site on the shores of Lake Malawi. Straight away we experienced the friendliness of the Malawian people and Laura was quick to check out the wooden carvings that the country is renowned for. The freshwater lake was ideal for swimming and pretty warm. From Chitimba we drove to Kande Beach where we stayed for 3 nights. Again the campsite was situated right on the Lake and we had the opportunity to meet the locals, swim in the water and buy wooden carvings and artwork. Again the locals were really friendly and great to chat to although Laura did have some knickers and a bra stolen from the washing line. She was livid! On our final night in Kande we walked to the local village for food, drinks and dancing with the villagers. The children sang, danced and were very cute.
The next morning we set off and travelled to Lilongwe the capital city. We had pizza and got to the camp site where we messed about in the pool and ate sausages and mash for dinner. Tomorrow we travel to Zambia.
