Hi everyone!!!
Well we just arrived in Oz this morning after a wicked 10 days in Bali. Where should we start? Ok....we got to Bali after a 2 1/2 hour flight from Singapore. We headed straight for Kuta which is really the main touristy part and managed to get into a really nice hotel called Sorga Cottages where we got a mint room, with brekkie thrown in, a lovely pool to use etc... for just over 3 quid each a night. Bargain!!!!
We had so many aspirations when we got there to travel around, maybe stay in Kuta for a few days and be proper backpackers. However, we had a slight change of plan and just decided to beach and pool bum at the same hotel for the whole time we were there. I think we just needed a break from city life!!!
Kuta is awesome with loads of shops, restaurants, bars, clubs etc... and it is really big for surfing. Not that we did any as the one day that we tried to have a ladylike swim in the sea we ended up getting washed up with our bikinis half hanging off and hair all over the place....not a pretty sight!!! The only annoying thing about it is that you get hounded by people 24/7 asking if you want to buy ice cream, bows and arrows, chess sets, massages, dinner, transport. We gave up even saying no and just said nothing!!!
On our first day on the beach we met two Italian guys from Florence called Paolo and Andreas. Paolo was a fashion buyer and Andreas was a model and had worked for Gucci. Nice! We had dinner with them that evening which they paid for! Neece one!!! There were a few language problems and they kept telling us to 'pay attention'. Paolo actually said the word 'punishment' at one point and Laura thought he said 'Pony Show'. he he! Then we had a English vs Italian game of blowing arrows out of a massive pipe thing and shooting them at the wall into a paper target. They were fun!
Every daytime consisted of exactly the same thing, beach, then lunch, then pool, then dinner, then out on the town! Will not bore you with a day by day account.
Met some amazing people, including some Balinese surfers who thought Lucy looked like Posh Spice or Victoria Adams as he put it! 3 guys from Melbourne who bought us a fair few beverages - thanks boys! Some weird Germans who were staying at our hotel that wanted us to do an island tour with them within 10 minutes of meeting them. Whatever! Some really nice French guys who we may meet up with in Sydney. Some Brazilians, one of whom looked like an alien and also 6 mint guys from Sydney (Michael, Craig, Ryan, Sam, Brendan and????)who we spent a fair bit of time with.
On the 12th October was the anniversary of the Bali bombings that happened in 2002. There is a huge memorial on the main street so we headed there where they were holding a service and people were lighting candles and laying flowers. It was really moving and there were a lot of people there. In fact we do believe at about the same time that we were there, Prince Charles and Camilla were unveiling a memorial in London for the 30 Brits that died there.
On our second to last night we headed down to a place called Jimbaran Bay with the Sydney boys for a spot of dinner and to watch the sunset. It was amazing. You have a table right on the beach and you sit there and watch the sun set right in front of you! Then you pick out which fish you want and weigh it yourself (it has been freshly caught that day). We had Red Snapper. MMMMMMMM!!! Then they take it and cook it over coconut husks! Absolutely the best fish we have ever tasted and the whole thing cost about 7 pounds. Wicked!
On our last full day we headed to a place called Dreamland Beach about 30 mins from Kuta. Gorgeous beach with great surf, really chilled and we got massages whilst lying on our sunloungers. Only cost us 2 pounds!!! Then got our own personal driver called Norman who took us to a place called Uluwathu. You walk along to a temple which is on the edge of the cliffs and the view is phenomenal. Then you get to see traditional Hindu singing and a performance on the cliff top whilst you watch the sunset. Oh its a hard life!!!
Had a big last night in Bounty (a big club that is shaped like a boat) with the lads and then got all packed up and left for Oz.
Think thats about everything. Hope all is good with everyone. Please keep the emails and messages coming as we love hearing from you. Miss and love you lots. Us xxx Piccies will be on soon when we can get to a internet cafe with fast broadband! x
