Hello!
God its been so long since we have done our last blog! Sorry, we are just getting very lazy and stingy with our money!
Last week we booked to go see an outdoor production of Romeo and Juliet in the botancial gardens and it was brilliant but about 5 minutes into the performance the skies opened and we had a monsoon shower and got completely drenched so it was called off! They let us re-book the tickets though and we went again on Tuesday when it was lovely and sunny. It was such a show, before it started two little guys came out through the audience introducing themselves (they remembered us from the first time we went!), generally heckling the audience and stealing all of their wine and food (we had nothing worth robbing). During the show the actor who played Romeo kept goin through the audience and grabbing at various audience members and even shoved one guy over so all you could see was his legs flalling around in the air, it was really funny but the guy was not amused. The actors were all brilliant and we are so glad we went (it was even better knowing we had got ourselves some half price tickets).
In the week we made the most of the temperatures cooling down below the 30Cs and went to visit the shrine of rememberance (as recommended to us by one of the curators at the art gallery from the week before). It was a really amazing building with all the flags of the regiments from the first world war in this egypitian style building. It was really good because we could climb to the top of the shrine and see the skyline behind the botanical gardens and take loads of pics. After this we went wondering around the botanical gardens which are huge and had cool glasshouses of tropical plants and cacti.
Ever since we arrived in Melbourne Claire has wanted to go the aquarium so this week we finally joined in with the bus loads of school kids and went. Its really cool there and huge (we were there for 3 1/2hrs and it felt like we'd only just arrived). We saw loads of fish (suprisingly) and they had a tank which re-created the coral reef which was very cool and has made us look forward to going snorkelling off the barrier reef. The coolest thing though was the entire lower floor was one giant tank with glass tunnels so you could walk under the tank full of sharks and massive stingrays. We got to see the divers going into the tank to feed the sharks and the rays were so big they just completely engulfed the divers. The divers also kept getting bitten by the turtle so they held the turtle in a head lock until they'd finished.
We really like the hostel we are in, because we have been there for long we know loads of people now (including a mad iranian racist old woman who fancies hitler - we tried to avoid this one!) and its lovely because every where you go you stop and chat to people and we are hitting the town for our first night out in Melbourne tonight with half the hostel so we are looking forward to that.
Right I think thats everything! Take care and keep in touch xxx
