Hello!
This is going to be a really quick blog because I dont have much time before we need to hit the road and mission it up to the rum factory in bundunberg!
Well what to say about fraser island...it was pretty damn amazing! I went on a self drive tour with claire, stacey, rich and our friend Sam came up from brissie to join us and some rich kid english girls and some crazy canadians. The driving there is pretty hairy and it does feel like your on a rollercoaster for the whole time you are driving in land being thrown around the place.
The first day we headed to lake mcenzie which was unbelieveably beautiful. Its a fresh water lake with the clearest blue water and white sands, it just looks like absolute paradise and we spent ages here swimming and sunning ourselves before heading to our campsite, which was literally just on the beach with no toilets or anything. This is where we had our first encounters with some dingos which was a little scary because they werent scared of us even when we tried setting our rape alarms off at them!
On the second day after an early start we drove up the length of the island to indian heads which had an amazing view of the whole island. We had hoped to see some sharks but instead we were greeted by a pod of dolphins riding the waves, so we werent too disappointed! After that we went to champagne pools which are rock pools right in the surf which get filled with sea water and loads of rather big fish which just swim around your legs.
After that we visited the pinnacles and the red canyon which are huge structures of compressed sand that have changed colour due to the mineral content then we stopped and took some pics of Maheno (the wreck) before finally heading to Eli creek where you walk to the top of the creek along a board walk and the float all the way back down to the sea. That night we camped right next to the wreck so we could go visit it at moonlight which was so stunning although none of our photos came out!
This is such a rubbish blog I really havent doen the weekend any justice but I really have to go! The weekend was really amazing it was really hard to comprehend how such a big island with a rainforest could be made just of sand and it was so cool just sleeping right next to the beach and spending the evenings sitting on the beach and chatting to fisherman who were telling us about all the 6ft sharks they had been catching (we were really dissapointed not to have seen any). My photos have failed to upload so I promise I'll get them up asap!! xxx
