Still in Texas.
Surprise! Here is a short blog to keep you up to date. At this moment we are on a pretty luxurious campsite in Van Horn, Texas. Why? Because our van decides to break down. Great! Not! However I'll first let you know how the last two days were. Actually the first day after we left the campsite at San Antonio (and our luxury cabins) wasn't that special. We drove to the north of Big Bend National Park and pitched up the tents. We had a nice spot and there even was a small bathroom. The tents are easy to build up and break down and give plenty of room for two persons. But it was pretty cold and it will be much colder. Luckily I have some good, warm clothes with me. And yesterday… That was great again. We drove around in the Big Bend and hiked together with the group the Lost Mine Trail. This trail takes around three hours and leads all the way to the top from one of the mountains. The view afterwards was amazing. And even better, after the hike we drove further to the hot springs. Well to be honest I didn't liked the hot springs that much, to hot for me! But the temperature from the Rio Grande was great! So while most were relaxing in the hot springs, I was swimming in the Rio Grande. I stayed close to the hot springs anyway. First because the current was pretty strong and second because the river forms the border line. If you look between the trees you could see on the other site all the Mexicans gazing to America. Really funny, they looked as real Mexican with white blouses, Mexican faces and sombreros. After we drove back again to the camping where we cooked a nice dinner and slept much better because of the better preparation for the cold night. But then, this morning we were on our way to white sands when suddenly the car engine stopped. In the middle of nowhere, luckily with sell phone reach, we were standing along the road. Art phoned around and after a few hours someone came to pick us up. Well they came to take the car and the trailer and we ended up with nine people sitting in a car made for five persons! They brought us to KOA camping in van Horn, which is a pretty good campsite in a nice surrounding. And Art arranged us a dinner and a big room where we hang around, but we may also put our sleeping bags over here and stay the night over. We already pitched up the tents again, but I'm pretty sure that we will stay here during the night. And how further? Two other tour leaders flown in to Austin today and will bring us a new van. So tomorrow around the midday we will be able again to continue our trip! Unfortunately we will need to skip white sands (which official not included the tour but was added by our tour leader) and probably we will drive a little longer. But we had and have great time, playing games, watching movies, chatting, relaxing and nice weather!
