Today we had a nice lie in until 9am and drove to Jasper with Cornelia and Lindsay (two housemates). We helped Lindsay with her luggage as she had to check it in for her bus trip home and then Jacob and I went to lunch at Famoso's, which is a pizzeria. I had hawaiian and Jacob had a marinara pizza which were both good. I also got treated to a strawberry and rhubarb 'sorbette' after and Jacob had salted caramel icecream! Yum.
After a lovely lunch out, we dropped our housemates back at Poco' and went to Hinton to get some gas and pop into the drugmart store to see if they sold my facewipes from back home - and yes! They had them so I am happy I now know where to go for them! We popped by Tim Hortons to get a frozen lemonade which was very refreshing then headed back towards Jasper.
We decided to drive up to Miette Hotsprings, which is 12km down the road next to where we work. The drive there was very scenic with beautiful backdrops of enormous mountains and pretty creeks running by the roadside. When we got there, there was a little herd of mountain goats pondering around the carpark which looked cute and fluffy as some were young. Miette Hotsprings are natural springs of water that flow from the Rocky mountains. They contain lots of minerals, gases and are filtered and cooled to 40'c when they enter the pools. We didn't go for a swim this time as we just went to look, but we will definitely go at some point during the next few months. On the drive back to Poco', Jacob spotted a beaver along the roadside, next to Morris Creek! He's always wanted to see one, so we turned around and went to have another look and saw him scurrying along by the rocks towards the creek - amazing! We then drove up to a beautiful view point with a view over Fiddle River, which is named that because when the wind blows through the mountain range at a certain speed, it creates the sound of a fiddle. But there's also another conflicting story suggesting that it's named 'Fiddle' because the outline of the mountain range is shaped like a violin. It was hard to tell from where we were - so I can't say what I agree with!
After a relaxing day of exploring, we headed back to our house. It's now 8pm and we're watching the finale of The Office on TV, feeling pretty tired. Time to get ready for bed soon and get up early for phone call attempt number two with our families (as the last attempt was unsuccessful as the phonebox didn't accept our phonecard!)
