Today we got up at 8am and went to meet with our co-ordinators to complete our paperwork for our jobs. We stayed at Chateau Jasper staff accommodation for the night which is one of their facilities. When I say 'their', I mean Mountain Park Lodges- the company we are working for. Once we'd sorted all of that and collected our uniforms and name badges, we packed our things and set off to Pocahontas Cabins, 30 minutes drive away. This is where we will be working from now until October. When we arrived we were greeted by the manager here and were shown to the staff lodge by our supervisor, called Angel. It's average accommodation - but what more can you expect for 8.50$ per day?! So, we unloaded the car and said a brief hello to some other staff residents. There are 6 rooms here, and 12 of us in total (haven't met everybody yet!). One kitchen between us all, but three fridges and three bathrooms, two of which have bath/shower - so it won't be such a race to get showered in the morning (i hope).
After we settled in, we drove to Hinton which is a town about 20 minutes down the road, with a few shops, gas stations and grocery stores. We did a quick shop there and loaded the 'trunk' of the car with our bags. Oh wait.. 'where are the keys?' Jacob asked.. He had gone and locked them in the boot of the car!! Luckily, there was a 'Canadian Tire' (autoservice place who we have road-side assistance cover with), so we went and asked them for the number to call (as the information was locked in the car). We called them, and after about an hour of waiting in the cold, they arrived and unlocked the car - hurrah! I decided that I would look after the keys from now on.. So after our slight delay, which is laughable now (was not at the time), we headed back to what is now technically our temporary home.
It's 10:30pm now, so it's time to head to bed, ready for an early start and first day of work in the morning!
