We landed in Boston. Cold and crisp air about 30 degrees and luckily we were prepared for the weather. We met Mitch at his school and went to a fantastic restaurant called "the Fireplace". We were so engaged in conversation that we forgot to take a picture. The food was fabulous and we got to hear about Mitch the chemist. It is fascinating how he is named after my dad who was a chemist. We will see if he continues down that path. We dropped him off at his dorm and continued up the coast to Saco. The picture is quintessential Maine with the bird on a car, water, lobster shack, and beauty. We continued to Orchard Beach and it was a bit of a ghost town. Those pictures will be in an album as soon as I can figure out how to upload them. We proceeded to Portland, Maine which is a beautiful very hip city with great restaurants along the water. In a food magazine, it said that Portland has become a major city for foodies. We met my friends, Russ and Grace for lunch at "Flatbread" which is another fabulous restaurant where we had home made lemonade made with maple syrup and it was warm! That was so much fun to sit by a fireplace while looking at the ocean, eating great pizza and warm lemonade.
With Russ and Grace's permission, I can share their story. We met Russ years ago at a Yoga retreat with Gary and my teachers in Esalen. We connected and became friends. A few years later, I went to India with my teachers and Russ was there again. We had a lot of time together since it was a small intimate group. We talked a lot with each other and he shared about Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Shifting forward into present day, about 6 months ago we spent some time with him at his home in Boothbay Harbor. I got this hair brain idea...my friend Grace who lives 3,000 miles away would be a perfect match for single Russ. I told him about her and got the ball rolling. Soon they started a email dating which moved into texting and finally into phone calls. Russ knew we were coming out and invited Grace out to finally meet in person the same week we would be here. We have been here in Boothbay at a cute little B&B. We spent time with them yesterday and the day before celebrating "new beginnings" for all of us which perfectly tied in with the spring equinox which was yesterday. This celebrates new beginnings for everyone in our hemisphere which ties in with Passover and Easter. To make a long story short they also feel they are a perfect match and the rest of the story remains to be seen.:--)
Yesterday we went to the Farnsworth museum which usually houses much of Andrew Wyeth's paintings since he was a local here in Maine along with his family. His art work is fantastic and he is world renowned for his work. It was a treat to see his art again. You feel transported to another time and place while viewing his work. Art clearly inspires you to new ideas and perceptions on life. It makes me want to start painting..:-) New beginnings?
Today we are spending the day in Boothbay Harbor...walking, visiting shops with hand crafted goods...going for a run on this exquisite day. Big luminous clouds with the sun peaking through and trees in a distance on their own little islands, surrounded by water and vegetation..charming!
More tomorrow....much love.
