There were coupons at the hostel for a cafe where you could claim a free coffee and cake, so we headed there for breakfast, and then drove to Surfer's Paradise. We parked at the hostel, and then used their shuttle bus service to get into town. We found the Hogs Breath Cafe, and went in to introduce ourselves, and then went to Peter Pans travel agency to use their internet so we could start the online training for the new menu (so we had a bit of a head start for the meeting at 3).
We tried out the sushi place nearby, I had chicken satay and Alice had a California roll and a sweet chilli calamari roll, but we both agreed it wasn't as good as Sushi Paradise in Cairns, so we won't get as tempted on the walk to work as before.
I think the rest of the Hogs staff were a bit confused to see 2 random girls in on their meeting. I hadn't expected that we would get to do a bit of wine tasting- we only got to try the new wines coming in but I wasn't very good at defining the flavours you get in each one. We also got to try the new cocktails, dishes, and most importantly the new sundaes- trifle, rocky road single portion, apple crumble and cherry chocolate. I can imagine Fernando being extremely happy that there is now aioli on the menu (we used to ask him to make some up fresh), and Alice is surprised they have decided to put veal on the menu. They also now have a pork dish so the name fits a bit better with the meals on offer. One of the nearby Hogs Breaths had rang Blake to see if anyone wanted to work tonight, and since no-one else wanted to, I thought I'd offer to make us look good but then the manager rang Blake to say not to worry, which I was relieved about.
We needed to get some groceries, so we went to the shopping centre and looked around. We are both very keen to try the vegetarian cafe where you can eat as much as you like for $9.90, and Alice was happy with her vegetarian cook book and, what we think is the book the Khajaraho boys mentioned. She is also excited about the Hare Krishna meetings on Saturdays where a vegetarian feast is provided.
We sat and waited at the bus stop for a bit before I checked and discovered there were no buses at 7, so we walked back.
It turns out Carolyn, from Sweden on our Fraser Island trip was staying at our hostel. Her and her friends she had met up with were going out but we stayed in to clean our van.
