Supposedly the worlds highest navigable lake, Titicaca is a very tranquil and lovely place... and whilst the small town of Copacabana on the Bolivian side of the lake is considerably nicer than Puno, its Peruvian counterpart, it`s still a tourist trap and I was not in the mood for it... There are interesting islands to visit nearby but I wasn`t really into the place... I`ve been spoilt and have seen so many lovely lakes on this trip I didn`t feel like I was missing out by skipping by this one. It was only a few days until my birthday and I wanted to get to La Paz, meet friends and get settled in... so I spent half a day in Copacabana and hopped on a bus to La Paz in the afternoon... the short sweet 3 hour journey included an interesting method of getting a bus across a large expanse of water. We were kicked off and ferried across on a small speed boat whilst our bus took a precarious crossing on what was no more than a giant plank of wood with a crappy motor strapped to the back of it... I continue to love latin american transport!!
