We both really like Venice even if it is in "magnificent decay" because city laws don't let property owners change their buildings (tourism plays a major role).
To get to the main island of Venice from Giudecca where our hostel is, we've been taking vaporettos, or water buses.
We saw the hordes of tourists at St Mark's Square and then into the quieter (but still busy) St Mark's Basilica where the saint's remains are supposed to be below the main altar. Unfortunately we weren't allowed to take pictures, but if we could you would be able so see the intricate mosaics on the ceiling. The area covered by the contact-lens-sized tiles on the ceiling could cover a football field!
Afterwards was Doge Palace where we saw the foot statue of a collosus. His toe's fingernail was the size of Rocio's hand...
The Correr Museum had lots of statues and we had a five second glimpse of the inside of the Church of San Zaccharia before being ushered out because it was time to close the church.
The dinner splurge included salads (veggies!), a mixed seafood dish, spaghetti, and a glass of delicious strawberry wine.
Oh, we forgot to mention that we had a snack midday: gelato, of course.
