Planning Time - Giro Dreaming
Every great trip starts with a plan. Be it vaguely formed, sort of organised or planned to the minute (and poo stop). This one falls somewhere in the middle and will be the first time Im really embracing all the mobile travel tools at my convenience - including this blog.
We are off to the Giro for a week in the Dolomites, a week travelling northern Italy, a week in a Tuscan villa with a bunch of friends for Sharons 50th and then a week in Rome.
Im still planning the bike logistics at present and given my lack of basic bike fitnes at present, the climbs we are planning might be a bit ambitious - but I will give it a crack in any case. Passo dello Stelvio is a case in point. Starting from Prato, the Passo dello Stelvio ascent is 24.3 km long. Over this distance, you climb 1808 heightmeters. The average percentage is thus 7.4 %.Ouch.
My Italian language practice is coming along OK but will need some more polish before we leave. Ok this first sort-of-test blog entry is done. More, exciting and thrilling chapters to follow soon. Possibly.
