Gold Coast to Kuala Lumpur
Air Asia lived up to all expectations... seats so narrow my ass only just fit in there... not sure how half the obese women who were also on the flight survived the 9 hours. It did make me happy to realise they were in more pain then me. The flight overall wasnt too bad considering it cost me $200 AUD. Didn't sleep a minute of it, until Dingo and myself put back around 8 or so beers in the last few hours...
Arriving in KL, the Low Cost terminal is exactly that - minimal money has been spent there. No air-con, coming from Canberra and hitting the humidity of this place was horrible. Not to mention the hour and 20 minute cab ride to actually make it into KL, no idea why the airport has been placed so far from the city, as there seems to be two-thirds of f*ck all in between except for palm trees, and more palm trees. Staying at the Novotel here however has given us one last taste of luxury before two months of hostel dorm rooms, so am attempting to relish in that.
Even though both of us were absolutely wrecked from the flight - being the first night - we did go out and hit the town. Ended up in a bar selling Carslberg for 1 MYR (40 cents AUD)... so did punish quite a few of those. We were the only westerners in the entire place, so kind of stood out a little. Smoked a sheesha which was great. Then headed to a place called 'The Beach' ... the girls there seemed very happy to see Australians, were quite 'overly friendly' ....and it took me around 12 minutes to realise that every single girl in the place, was in fact a prostitute. It was somewhere between being stared at by every single one of them, and being touched inappropriately that I realised this.... hilarious experience. Stumbled back to the hotel around 4 or so (not really sure).
Explored KL all day today.... walked pretty much the entire city and saw everything. To be honest theres not all that much to see. Towers, check....markets, check. A temple. Thought I was fantastic at barter'ing in the markets, but did in fact get ripped off on my first sunnies purchase, seeing as they were 20 cheaper next door. Got asked to marry some girl in one of the stalls inside. Got called 'Big man' 'long man' and every other similar description. Very much looking forward to flying out of this place tomorrow morning for London, has been a good stop-over but I sure as hell wouldn't come here for an extended holiday.
Cant wait to jump back aboard Air Asia for 13 hours to London! Travelling Lesson 1: Don't be a total cheapass with the Airline. You do require a seat that reclines if you are to get any sleep.
Will update again when I have been in London for a few days.
Cheers
