So onto Friday (at last) - should have done this ages ago as its all a bit hazy now but never mind. Took it fairly easy in the morning, nursing a hang-over and missed most of the fujitsu V8 qualifying which is a kind of feeder event for the main V8 series, though given the times they were posting there can't really be much of a difference in the specs of the cars. Watched the first round of the historics which lasted for only 5 of its 7 laps before the red flag came up (a bit of a theme for the weekend).
This was followed by the the first of the fujitsu races that sadly ended in tragedy with a horrific crash that claimed the life of Holden driver Mark Porter. Porter's Holden Commodore was left stranded in the middle of the circuit after spinning out of control while exiting a corner. Seconds later, David Clark, travelling at 200km/h in his Ford, slammed into Porter's Commodore, unable to avoid the collision. The red flags came out immediately and it then took officials nearly two hours to make the course safe again, during which the crowd were entertained by a bunch of lunatics on bikes and the capa ute boys, unaware that both of the drivers involved in the crash were fighting for their lives. As a result the last two races of the afternoon were cancelled so no porsches... :(
On returning to the house we met up with the last duo to join us for the weekend and then wandered into town to find food and beerage. Failed to chat up a waitress and wandered back to the house with Makr and Andy around one...
