Sunday Lewis and I got up and drove to Salima to visit Mrs. Nester Phiri. She is a lovely woman from our congregation in Lilongwe. For her to come to services each week she gets up early and catches a minibus that will drive the 111 Kilometers to Lilongwe; where she will then walk several more kilometers from the bus stop to the church building. The week was off to a slow start. We spent Sunday hanging out at the house watching cartoons with our seven year old neighbor, Muhammed. He's a cute kid, but tends to overstay his welcome. We’re trying to teach him some manners; he now knocks and asks to come in before walking in. We’re working on him not saying OMG anymore and not walking all over our furniture. I’ve vacillated between being overwhelmed with excitement at all of the new things; and overwhelmed with doubt as I realize how difficult this year might be. We lose power most every day. The outages range from just a few minutes up to five or six hours at a time. Thankfully we keep frozen water bottles in the freezer to keep the things in the refrigerator cool during those times.
