After misreading our flight details, we arrived at Samui airport after a very flustered and panicked couple of hours! It was then back to Bangkok airport, where we had a couple of hours to kill before boarding our onward flight onto Ho Chi Minh City or Saigon as it was formerly known.
On arrival we were quite shock by the language barrier, which made it very difficult to communicate with the many taxi drivers waiting outside the station. Not helped by the fact they thought we were American, which they did not care for, and after around 45 minutes of hard negotiaition, we piled into a cab, assured that it was on the meter. As we drove through the streets, we were shocked at the sheer amount of motorbikes on the road, at times with 3 people on board without helmets, considering that it was quite late in the evening! On arrival at our hostel, the driver decided on a price (much higher than what the meter would suggest!) and then we realised we had no hope of crossing the extremely busy road. With not a crossing in sight, we were introduced to the Highway Code, the Vietnam way , which involves walking very slowly into the oncoming traffic maintaining eye contact with the drivers and hoping that they swerve round you!! ridiculously scary! After eventually locating our hostel nestled in a back alley and surrounded by the locals' houses and climbing the 5 flights of stairs to our room we decided on an early night ready to take in the city sights bright and early the next day!
